About

The Pickwick is a James Beard Award winner known for its charcoal grilled meats and fine homemade fare. It's been around for nearly 100 years for a reason!

Story

Happy Hour 3-6 in pub/patio! Pub specials every weeknight. Live Music every Thursday! Family style restaurant with a combination of private dining rooms and our classic pub area.

Our history...

The year 1888 marked our beginnings as a small tasting pub within Fitger’s Brewing Company, just a stones throw down the street. In 1914, the establishment moved to this present location. Why the move and how the name the Pickwick was chosen remains a mystery the caliber of Stonehenge.

What we can confirm is that bartender Joseph S. Wisocki borrowed $200 and bought the business in 1918 – the year prohibition was enacted. For 15 long years Joe served “Near Beer” and sandwiches. In 1933 when Franklin D. Roosevelt lifted this dark shroud off America, Duluth naturally celebrated at the Pickwick. Our Pub remained open 24-hours that December day and served upwards of 9,000 people. A stein of beer cost a nickel.

Since that time we've groomed our reputation as a purveyor of fine foods and earned a James Beard Foundation Award in 2007. We hope you enjoy an award-worthy meal while steeping in the Pickwick’s Old World atmosphere.

Our European style woodwork and furniture is a hardy hat tip to Duluth’s skilled immigrants. Even the painted canvases in the Dutch Room were brought over from the former location and deserve your close attention. Hidden in these artworks are a five-fingered monk, a grasshopper commemorating the insect plague of 1873 and beer-brewing gnomes.

Lastly, behind our bar is a hogshead cask from the Fitger’s establishment. Urban myth says a tap once ran between the two buildings, but you can’t believe everything people tell you. Just what’s written on the back of a menu.

One of Duluth's premier local owned restaurants! They offer a great menu with charcoal grilled food sections. The service was really good, but does tend to get busy especially on the weekends and around the dinner hours! Overall very impressive!

Food was great, service was mostly great aside for a drink order mix-up, but that happens sometimes. The only reason this isn't getting a five is because Google had this listed at $$ and it really should have been listed at $$$ as their prices were much higher than my family and I expected upon seeing the $$ listed. But again, great food, great atmosphere, and for the most part great service. Would definitely recommend, just want people to be aware of the prices you'll find here.

Went to the Thanksgiving dinner, $23 per person. Turkey was dry and in one big chunk with skin on the bottom, some scraps of dark on the side, stuffing was heavy with sage, potatoes were plan, just mashed, and the green bean dish was under cooked. The only thing that was good was the bread and water. Bill came to $57 for two people. You didn't even get a piece of pie for dessert. Went home and ate. Pretty sad.

Food was AMAZING! Got the stuffed mushrooms and I was scraping the plate cause I couldn't get enough! Had the pickwick jambalaya which is spicy! But good! My boyfriend had the Lake Superior white fish and loved it as well! Everything was good! Service was a little slow sometimes. Waited a while to get drinks and have our order taken. I am a server and I get waiting to take an order if someone got an appetizer, but we hadn't had our appetizer yet and it had been a bit of a wait. She was nice just could have checked up a little better! Other than that I'm sure she's a great server! But I would highly recommend the place!

As someone who used to go to this restaurant quite a bit when I was younger, I was sad to see the quality had gone down. The food was cold and pretty bland. I also asked them to box the food after they offered to do so, but found out that they just tossed it and didn't apologize for it.
