The park is gorgeous~ so much to see and do and explore. It is just amazing! Five stars to the beauty of the park! I had a poor experience in the Bear Valley Visitor Center, however, when I walked in to purchase a t-shirt off the shelf. I was looking at the t-shirt when a woman (not a park ranger) came hurrying over to abruptly tell me I could look at the t-shirts that were on hangers rather than take one off the shelf! I chose to not purchase one simply due to her rudeness. I've never experienced abruptness at a visitor center. Usually people are kind and friendly, and she hurried over to get the shirt I neatly placed back on the shelf so she could fold it perfectly. Hope she learns to someday learn what is important in life and not be so abrupt about a t-shirt being taken off a shelf.

Excellent for a short 1 or 2 night backpacking trip. There's a variety of terrain including lush forest, streams, elevation changes and a sick ocean view. Depending on the season, be prepared for rain and always be prepared for the wind when staking a tent. Surprisingly it's also not very crowded given its proximity to San Francisco.

The hostel was great. Nancy was super nice and got us settled in as we arrived at 9:55pm. The doors are locked at 10pm, but if you call her to let her know you might be 5-10minutes past that, she will keep an eye out for you & let you in. We stayed in the coed bunk room, & we had all 10 bunks to ourselves as well as the bathroom (which was a men's restroom-the ladies was just across the hall). It was very quiet, dark, & perfect for sleeping. In the morning, my husband & I went for a run to the coast, & we could have spent our day (+ a few more) just checking out all the trails in the area. What a great relaxing place to spend the night. I want to return for a week just to see the rest of the stuff I missed.

Definitely worth visiting to see the beautiful vistas of the ocean. The drive there by itself is quite beautiful. Since the only road to get there takes a slightly circular route and has a low speed limit (mostly 25 - 35), it takes quite a while to get there even if the distance is less. Do watch out for bikers while driving, since you will see a lot of them sharing the road with the cars.

Awesome place for beginner backpacking. We flew into OAK and took public transportation up for less than $20. Beautiful area, tons of interesting climate and lots of friendly people in the area and in the town.
