Story

Rainbow Mountain is a gay-owned and operated resort, restaurant and nightclub that has been serving the community since 1981. Nestled high atop a mountainside on 25 private acres, including a 2 acre lake, we boast a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Welcoming both men and women and open to all lifestyles, we are open year round with our friendly and helpful staff ready to serve you.

Our on-site amenities include an Olympic size swimming pool and sundeck; a year-round, 10-person hot tub with an adjacent, heated changing room, an exercise facility; a sauna, tennis, volleyball, badminton and shuffleboard courts; a hill for snow sledding and tubing, and our pond with paddle boats, fishing, and ice skating.

We are near many warm weather activities such as boating, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, water skiing, golfing and water parks (both outside and indoor). In the winter, there is snow skiing (downhill and cross country), snow boarding, tubing, and snowmobiling. All year long there is great hiking, horseback riding, antiquing, outlet and flea market shopping, and gambling.

If you are expecting an ultra modern resort, you are looking in the wrong place. Our structures were built in the 1900's, 1950's and 1960's. There is a special history and charm that our guest experience while here. One of our guests wrote this review on "Trip Advisor" that captures the true essence of the resort.

"Of all the places in the world I love, one of the best is Rainbow Mountain. For twelve years I have run themed weekends and twice a year I work with the resort and all of the staff. The buildings were built in the 1940’s and codes were different then. The place has a charm of its own but the best part is getting to know the staff and making yourself part of the family, which takes about fifteen minutes on a bad day. When you are a regular at Rainbow it’s like taking a ride to grandma’s for a visit with all the cousins. Rainbow thrives on holidays, especially Halloween, but every Thursday a familiar crew gathers for Karaoke. On Saturday nights everybody dances in the disco. As the weather changes in the mountains it’s simply beautiful to watch the mist roll over the pond located in the center. Not everything at Rainbow is brand new and shiny but the new owners know that and are fixing what needs to be fixed while maintaining the innate charm of the place. Frankly, I will settle for what they have if they promise to keep their smiles, their hugs and family charm. I like old-fashioned warmth and you can find it at Rainbow. Did I mention the big porch? On a pretty day old friends sit there for hours and talk about everything and nothing. Just let Joey know if you need something to drink. Jayson and Rich are always around so there’s no reason to not let your needs be known. Finding flaws with Rainbow is like complaining about the Chelsea, or the Hotel Pennsylvania. You don’t whine, you embrace it and be glad a piece of culture is still here." - M.Davis

I stopped in with a few friends for breakfast here and the experience was pleasurable all around. The did was great and the staff was very friendly and professional. The grounds could use a little better upkeep, but still charming. I'm looking forward to going back add an overnight guest.

This was our first time at the resort. I wanted to give a higher star rating but the lodging is in great need of a renovation. We have a dog and they placed us in their bungalow. The mattress sinks in, the bed spread is worn, the carpet is thread bare and torn. We did try their restaurant and my spouse and I both agreed that the food was edible but nothing more. The one exception was the lobster bisque which was really tasty! The staff at the facility are all hospitable and friendly. They made the experience enjoyable. They are what makes this place special The price over Memorial Day for three night was $630. It included free admission to the pool and the night club. The hot tub broke down and the water was slime green. They didn't offer a military discount and for that price point I was disappointed. Would we come back? Perhaps if they renovated the lodging or the price point was lower. I do recommend their nightclub where the locals know everyone by name.

Such a good time! All it took was 1 time during the summer and then all of a sudden I was there every weekend! Such a great staff and pool. Get there early to get a seat because it does get packed! Bartenders are great. Everyone makes you feel like a "regular". And you get truly be comfortable here.

My boyfriend and I came here for our tenth anniversary after doing some research for a little getaway. To call the staff friendly would be an understatement. We had to call them to see if they had anything for a special occasion and the conversation alone sold us. They were inviting and their tone was welcoming. We stayed in one of the King rooms. My boyfriend said it was one of the best beds he has ever slept in and he is a hard man to please in that front. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and went to the jacuzzi that night. It was truly a perfect evening. That Saturday, we went hiking per the recommendation of the concierges on the Appalachian trails. There is an entrance nearby, just about ten minutes drive. It was a beautiful day and by the end of the day, I was engaged! That night, we went to the club on site that had some fun karaoke in the basement. There is also a nature trail on the grounds that wraps around a lake. It is relatively short but still beautiful. Safe to say that the stay was worthwile.
