Riverview Theater

About

Welcome to the Riverview Theater, where we present everything from Hollywood's biggest blockbusters to niche art films, all in a classic auditorium featuring new high-backed rocker seats and digital sound.

Story

Even though we feature state-of-the-art projection and sound systems, our customers enjoy the opportunity to "step back in time" and experience movie-going as it was in the 50s, when neighborhood theaters were in abundance. Some of our customers walk to the theater and enjoy arriving early in order to relax in the spacious lobby on the mod couches and chairs.

Our regular admission pricing is listed below. We host a number of special events for which our regular admission policy does not apply. Check the specific event for ticket information.

Cash only, please. We do not accept credit cards. However, there is an ATM on site.

ADMISSION: Matinees before 6pm - $2

I just love everything about this theater. It's vintage and historic. Tickets are cheap. It's a great member of the community. Snacks are affordable and delicious. The seats are (for the most part) comfortable and the screen and sound system very good. And it's in my neck of the woods (if not in my 'neighborhood') and going there always makes me feel like I'm part of a community gathering. Kudos to the folks running this place. The Riverview is part of what makes me crazy happy to be in South Minneapolis.

A fantastic budget theater. Large, impossibly affordable, decently maintained, and offering movies new and old for 2-3 dollars... If there is a catch then I surely haven't found it over the course of my many visits. Tips: Careful with parking. Of course, one must always pay attention to the street signs, but here especially, so as not to get towed like so many before. Bring cash! This establishment is cash only. An ATM is available with a $2.50 fee, but considering that is basically the price of admission...

Fifties ambience meets modern audio & video, with prices that are truly from another era. You'll find REAL BUTTER on their popcorn, not some greasy, runny, unnatural concoction that betrays its laboratory origins with the first nasty handful. This venue can compare favorably with any of the newly remodeled suburban stadium-seating theaters for sound, picture quality, and seating comfort. Best of all, with prices for both tickets and concessions around 50-75% LESS than the going rate around town ($3.00, all seats General Admission, $2.00 Matinees and all day on Tuesdays), taking the family to the Riverview for "Movie Night" is once again an economically viable proposition. You can wait, on average, for nine out of ten films that are released each year to come to this second-run theater, and not feel deprived. If it's not a movie on the order of "Black Panther," "The Avengers," "Titanic," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Avatar," or "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," the only thing you'll miss by patronizing the Riverview is not being able to talk about a movie - with spoilers - until it arrives here around 4-6 weeks after a general opening. It's well worth the wait, by far. I wish I could give the Riverview Theater TEN stars!

Last time we visited, it was amazing. This was the exact opposite. Very small portion size ($16 for 5 chunks of lamb NOT on a skewer called a kebab?), poor, uninterested servers. Four people, $75, still hungry. What happened??

This theater is great! Tickets were super cheap. Snacks available too. All cash only, but they have an ATM inside if you need it. Really neat interior and enjoyable movie experience.
