Stopped by here for dinner when I was going Atlanta, it was so good we decided to stop by when we were heading back home to Florida. Burgers are tasty without being greasy. The milkshakes are out of control. The place itself is clean with a good vibe. The staff is nice and attentive. Everything you could possible want out of a restaurant. Hopefully I have a reason to back to Atlanta soon :)

I've had burgers from the east coast to the west coast. This place has the perfect balance of taste and toppings, none over power the other. Their beer selection has a wide range to fit almost any taste, local brews, national micro brews and domestic, bottle or pitcher. You can't go wrong by stopping in and checking it out. Everything is made fresh in house, from fries to cream cheese, it is a great place to stop in to have a bite.

I came here on a dinner date based on a friend's recommendation and the general hype surrounding this place with some unfortunately inflated expectations. Honestly it's very hard to tell why the Rookery is so popular. The wait time was absurd, we had to stand around outside in the heat, and while it does have an awesome convivial tavern-like ambience, so do countless better restaurants. We got seated at a booth with a dirty sticky table and empty bottles of condiments, with our waiter who seemed friendly but remained absent for long periods of time, visibly in a rush to tend to all the guests. After an about average wait our order was served, a soggy sandwich and one of their famous burgers, both clearly rushed in their preparation and somewhat poorly presented. There was nothing wrong with the burger but calling it exceptional would be an overstatement. The sandwich wasn't much better than my average hasty dinner coming home exhausted from work, while containing about triple the grease. If I had to venture a guess, the kitchen is overworked and lacks the supervision of an actual chef. This surprised me since the sister establishment upstairs, Dovetail, wills itself a somewhat fancy dining place. In conclusion, if they took reservations (which they don't) this would be a pretty good place to go with a group of friends as long as you value the ambience more than anything in your plate, however do NOT come for a unique or even above-average culinary experience. The Rookery does not live up to its undeserved reputation, and is officially the most average place I've ever eaten at.

Great food. Laid back environment. Rustic and eclectic decor. The Billy Carter shake is a must have. The fried mushrooms are delicious. Juicy burgers. A local place you can't go wrong with. The next time you're in Macon, stop in.

Well I wanted to try this place after watching it on the Food Network. Your always on the look out for a awesome hamburger an thick shake an this place is over the moon great! The staff are super friendly an fast! It is not a large restaurant an fills up quickly but totally worth the wait. The variety of burgers offers everyone a choice. We ordered our food an it was their not even 10 minutes later an the brioche buns are melt in your mouth, then a perfectly cooked an seasoned burger with the trimmings is heaven. We decided to order a shake which are around $5 an are so worth every penny! They have some awesome combinations so you could go an try something new every time. Totally a mouth watering experience! Check it out if your down town Macon.
