For months I walked by Roots after they opened thinking it was probably just some millennial overrated type of salad place, but was then lured in by all my friends raving reviews. I am a die hard Chipotle fan but the flavors and ingredients Roots offers knocks Chipotle right off its pedestal for me. They have signature bowls but as a picky eater, I’m not a fan of the hassle that is substituting certain items so I choose to build my own. You choose your base of greens/rice/mix of both, add up to five toppings my go-to’s are the roasted broccoli, pickled onions, roasted corn, cucumber, and roasted sweet potatoes, choose any amount of whichever sauces you want my personal favorites are light caesar and light lemon tahini, and your protein. I am not an adventurous menu taster and normally stick with one or two items, but at Roots I feel compelled to try everything. Besides the food, the staff is also so incredibly sweet and generous. Maya and Tyler always give spectacular service and it makes me smile to see them when I walk in because I know I’ll get treated well! The music is also so good, which is kind of a strange thing to comment on but my friends and I always bring up the excellent music taste of whoever’s in charge of aux. Lastly, the interior is just so cool. Complementary colors of blue and orange greet you as you walk in, with contemporary light fixtures hanging over the seats. It’s all around my new favorite place to go and I couldn’t recommend more!
I bought the roots bowl. It was well proportioned, I was happy with the size for price I usually us go to CoreLife And there comparable in price. Tasty for sure, but disappointed they use canola oil which certainly isn’t healthy. Also, came for the kids eat free but was charged for my kids bowl. Would like a smaller dice on the meat so I can get a bite with everything on it lol not just a huge chunk of meat. lol this was my first visit. Kid-friendliness: Advertises kids eat free with purchase of adult bowl, And is present. I met those requirements And was still charged. My son really loved the roots bowl though! This was our first visit.
Omg! I finally found a healthy salad bowl I really enjoyed. I chosed the El Jefe, substitute with spinach, added mushrooms and left out the Tabasco. Delicious plus I had a healthy hibiscus tea with an added sweetener. The staff was very friendly and restaurant was very clean. Very serene atmosphere Recommended Food: 5/5
Great, but expensive! Everything tastes great, but I wish the proportions leaned less towards rice and more towards the protein, especially for the price. Still, I got a decent meal and a solid snack out of the leftovers. I highly recommend the Southern bowl.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Roots. A very healthy alternative. Staff was welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed the Tamari and my husband had the southern. Everything is Chopped well so that is ready to eat without having to cut up. You can get a salad or grain based bowl by one of their designed bowls or build your own.
Thus was my first visit to Roots. Got a "make your own bowl." It was excellent and very filling. The service was great as well. I would definitely go back. The only thing I would change is the volume of the music. I don't know if it's normally that loud. It was a little challenging to have a conversation.
After receiving a coupon I decided to check out Roots Kitchen and omg!! Once you go here you will never and I mean NEVER go back to other bowl building spots again!! Everything is super fresh, filling, and so good! I got a mix of the El jefe and El Apollo, so tons of spinach, kale, chickpeas, Chicken, feta, cucumbers, avocado, black beans, corn, feta, and red onions! Wow! Every bite was sooo good and again so fresh! I would recommend checking out the sauces by the drinks as the bowls, well at least mine, was a little dry. The sauces helped bring out the flavors. They give you a lot of food, so be ready for two or three meals. I would come here every day if I could as the food was just that good! Please open up one in Raleigh so I can do that..lol. A must go to for fresh and healthy food!
The bowl was slightly dryer compared to other salad bowls, but there was still great flavor and it was very filling. You can likely ask for extra dressing or use some of the other sauces near the drinks. Bbq tofu was awesome. An excellent option for anyone who seriously wants a healthy bite on the go.
My First time trying Roots after walking and driving past it for months. It was WELL proportioned, delicious and very filling! The Balboa was EVERYTHING. I requested without chicken, and although no meat was included this meal was so delicious! I was so full afterwards. They will now be my "go-to" for very filling, yet light meal choices. Delicious!! Vegetarian options: Delicious!
I have been going here since they have been opened and each time is more disappointing than the next. The staff in the beginning were really friendly but the last few times were not the best. Since the food is customizable I can’t really say much about since I probably made a bad combo a few times but the main problem I have is that each time is so inconsistent even if I order the same thing over and over again. The music does not fit the ambiance but I guess that’s what the workers like listening to. The staff also look and act like they don’t want to work and it shows through. I don’t go here as often due to that reason.
