Underground Tours provide guests with a glimpse into the challenges of the first Sacramento residents and their struggle to sustain the city despite disease, floods, and fire. To combat pervasive flooding, two and one half square miles of Sacramento city streets and buildings were painstakingly raised from 1864 to 1877. Tour Guides will help guests imagine the scope of the project through firsthand accounts and explain the mechanics of the building raising process. Tours will include discussion of the pervasive myths and rumors regarding Sacramento’s existing underground spaces while visiting two underground spaces. It's Jacked Up! Tours run from April through the end of November.
