I've been coming here for over 20 years and I love it. The lodge is up in Madera Canyon, which is a wooded canyon rising from the valley floor up to 5400 feet up at the end of the road. The lodge is at about 5000 feet, meaning it is much cooler than the valley (and Tucson proper). The lodge has half a dozen cabins and about 8 rooms that are more motel style. All have come cooking utilities as there is no place to eat in the area unless you drive to Green Valley, 20 minutes away. The cabins back on the creek which runs most of the years and has beautiful white Arizona sycamore trees. The kitchen is a bit spartan. There's microwave, small fridge with decent sized freezer, toaster, coffee make, two burner hotplate, and just enough pots, pans, dishes and utensils to get by. Don't count on cooking a fancy meal. The area is lovely and it is a famous birding hot spot - during spring migration, you need reservations well in advance. The cabin rooms are wood paneled with comfortable beds, a small roofed front porch, and basic bbq facilities. It can get a bit chilly in the winter months despite the two electric space heaters in each room. Very scenic and peaceful place with an abundance of hiking trail options in all directions. Love it!

Location, location, location. Located right in the heart of some of the most legendary birding in the country, it's a great way to get an early start and late finish. The staff was friendly and check-in/out was a breeze. The room was comfy with good A/C, albeit somewhat primitive due to the remoteness (eg limited WiFi, limited hot water). The feeder station didn't compare to some of the others in SEAZ, but at least you have a near certain chance to see their resident Elf Owl each night! Plus, you should be birding down at the very accessible proctor road or up in the upper trails :-)

Watch birds in a magical setting. I saw birds I'd only hoped to see in my day trip to this mountain paradise for bird watchers. Lovely gift shop, too. I will return with my binoculars and camera to spend more time here.

I've been here many times and no matter the weather it's a lovely place to visit. Whether you are there for birding, wildlife in general or just getting out in nature. It has something for everyone, even a few inns where you can spend the night. Everyone from kids to the elderly can have a fun time here. There are paved paths, flat or hilly paths, many benches scattered around. There are streams and bridges and even some intense hikes up the side of a mountain.
