This is one of the best hardware stores I have been to. They have the best Stihl collection in all of Santa Cruz County. The staff is extremely helpful and seem to be always available. Every visit has been a great pleasure, and even calling to see if they have something in stock is easy. They have actual humans that answer the phone. Shocker!

Scarborough dominates Scotts Valley as the primary hardware, garden and lumber supplies purveyor. These people run 3 great stores and hire helpful staff.

The slogan "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man" is entirely true at this store.  Walk in the door and say what you need to the first staffer, and they'll take you right to the desired product.  Nicest, most helpful people I've ever seen in a store.  Large range of products means it's a convenient one stop.  However, there's a negative. Any Ace brand product may likely be substandard or mediocre.  Examples include the trimmer line in the photo.  I never realized how awful the Ace product was until I bought a competitor. Ace is 1 star; Titanium gets 5.  They used to sell Ace branded driveway sealer, but as you see in the second photo, it was awful, I asked for and got a full refund and then redid the driveway. What a pain.  Now they understandably only sell name branded product.  I bought some little Ace-branded Delta faucet washers, and two of them were the wrong size. Etc., etc.  Note that all prices are maximum full retail except for sale items.  So you pay for the great convenience.  A sink drinking water faucet that's $16 on Amazon is $25 at this store.  Etc.  You'll have to decide if the difference is worth it.  I go there a few times a year for small stuff like screws and stainless steel clamps but otherwise go elsewhere.  Although I do admit, I do like the personal customer service, which is this store's strong point.

Official Stihl sales and service. Great general selection. Employees are very nice and chatty.  Not once have I gone it alone in that store. Someone always asks if I need assistance.
