Food was very good.  Was disappointed there was no 'show' from the chef.  He basically cooked the food but nothing else.  We have been here several times and enjoyed the 'show' from the other chefs.  We had brought a friend who had never been to a grill like this, so this was very disappointing.  She did enjoy the food tho.

Shogun Grill & Sushi tries and mostly achieves what its name indicates it claims to be. It's three things in one: teppanyaki grills with seating that surrounds them where the "chef" cooks the food with as much attention to his performance as the preparation of the food itself (in other words, a show); a standard sit-down table-service restaurant where you are served by a waitress; and a sushi restaurant (the type where the menu exhibits pictures & only minimal labels instead of complete descriptions of the items). In other words, its expected customer base are families and good ol' Texas citizens. It succeeds in doing all three reasonably well, and service and food preparation are attentive and quick enough that it's close to Japanese fast food outlets (however, on the evening of our visit it was less than one-third occupied). The only downside any of our party noticed was dry, bland teppanyaki chicken, which was replaced immediately with entirety adequate shrimp. The sushi was adequately prepared and apparently fresh. They don't set out to be a high-end restaurant, but satisfy the tastes of what must surely be an ignorant customer base, who need the food to be over-flavored and over-salted with no subtlety whatsoever. This they do, and I have no complaint in that regard if that's what you want or have folks that need to be entertained with a show or need to be reassured that this or that sushi has only fully-cooked seafood in it. Mass-market Japanese food a couple of steps up from fast food stalls in the mall. A little more attention to the food itself would be desired (for example, the fried rice was overcooked and almost mushy), but you and I don’t need to be eating a lot of rice, anyway, so no points off there. But this restaurant is likely very predictable and stable and a sure bet when your mouth wants what they have on offer. I'm sure many items are excellent, and intend to go back and confirm that supposition.
