Called to try to make an appointment on 1/26/24 around 3 pm and the receptionist was perhaps the rudest person I have ever encountered. As someone who also works in healthcare, or just as another human being in general, I would never treat someone so rudely. Do better.
I have seen Dr. DeGiacomo for about 4-5 years. She is good at what she does but there are some major challenges South Coast has with running the business. The doctor likes to bring younger "trainees" in the room to take pictures for progress updates. I usually have to remind her that I would rather not have that as I am a private person. I am fine with the pictures as they are meant to check progress but not with, at times, multiple trainees coming in to take pictures and use me as a study ground. Going into the office has been a pleasant experience and the front desk team has been fine. There is not usually that long of a wait to get into the doctor's office. Once in, I have waited for almost an hour at times. Most times it's about 15 minutes but you never really know. The largest challenge I have is with their prescription process. If you plan of having ongoing medication of any kind DO NOT GO to this dermatologist. Here is the process: If you need to renew a prescription then you call South Coast and leave a message with their prescription line. There is never a person who answers, even during business hours. Each time I need to renew a prescription, I plan on calling at least 2 times and leaving a message. The first message is inevitably ignored. They also don't confirm receiving the message in any form so you are left to wonder if your prescription has been received by the pharmacy. This requires an additional step of calling the pharmacy so as to not waste your time in getting there just to find that South Coast has not renewed the prescription. I typically call South Coast 2-5 times to renew a prescription. I understand that this might not be a concern for them but there are patients that rely on these medications and it has personally set me back up to over a month on getting a prescription that I am out of. I have voiced how the prescription renewal process is incredibly painful and ineffective to South Coast several times and nothing has been changed. I am a middle aged professional and I don't have the time to spend making up for South Coast's inadequacies with communication, the prescription department, and their failure to run their business and care for their patients. To me, it's a pretty simple fix. For this reason, I am going to a new dermatologist.
This practice got way too big for them to care about people. They don’t care about helping patients who have been there for years. They don’t have the time, or want, to see patients if it’s urgent. Also making the first appointment of the day so kids can get to school doesn’t register with certain dr’s. They leave you sitting in a room while they catch up with their coworkers in the hall about their weekends. Very unprofessional.
Questionable expertise. They will see you for something that they ‘do not deal with’, send you someplace else and still charge you
Billed multiple times to which I took care of immediately, I had reached out calling to make sure it was all set which they confirmed it was and still continued to receive bills. They need a better system. Ended up affecting my credit in the long run. Do not recommend.
The front desk staff could not have been any nicer. Young lady who walked me to room, could not have been nicer. The doctor? Dr. Lauren Strazzula? The worsttt. One of the rudest, coldest doctors I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. I’ve never been so rushed, so talked down to. The young lady training with her followed suit & acted just like the doctor; to be expected when the person training you has the bedside manner of a brick wall. I heard there are other kind, intelligent and caring doctors at the practice, so perhaps I’ll try someone else. Again front desk ladies were so kind, warm, knowledgeable, patient, sweet, helpful. Dr. Strazzula = cold as ice.
I can’t give enough kudos to the staff at South Coast Dermatology! Starting with my initial phone call to the office . I had called to set up a new patient appointment to address a concerning spot . The woman I wish I could remember her name took her time with me and after realizing the level of my concern accommodated me with a next day appointment. Upon my arrival for the appointment I was so impressed with how friendly and happy the front desk staff was . I was seen within moments of my scheduled appointment time. I saw Dr. Susan Decoste . She as well as her assistant were absolutely fabulous!! I felt that she truly listened to me and addressed ALL my concerns . She was extremely thorough & professional.! I will recommend this practice to all of my friends & family. Keep up the great work!!
My experience here was great. First time having a skin check age 38 and I was not sure what to expect. Dr. Strazzula made me feel welcome and was knowledgable. Highly recommend.
The reception area was clean and welcoming. It was an easy check-in process as I had completed the preregistration online. I was called back to my appointment on time. After preliminary questions with PA, Dr.Csikesz arrived to review my condition. Since this was the first time we had met and I was coming from out of state I wasn’t sure how she would proceed. She reassured me that she could help and if I needed additional treatment there was a team that would accommodate me. I am pleased with the whole experience.
I find my visits to be thorough and feel the attending doctor is intent on her job of taking care of patient she is with at the time--not rushed and not on computer as the attendant was taking her notes. I have seen each doctor at least once and find them all to be knowledgeable and helpful. As you walk in I find them to be pleasant and friendly as well as when you leave. The room is spaced out with social distancing for this period of time. They have been helpful on the phone whenever I have needed an aptm.
