Story

Steak ‘n Shake was founded in February, 1934 in Normal, Illinois. Gus Belt, Steak ‘n Shake’s founder, pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milk shakes. The Steak 'n Shake name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for STEAKBURGER. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped MILK SHAKES. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. To prove his point that his burgers were exceptionally prime, he would wheel in a barrel of steaks (including round, sirloin, and T-bones) and grind the meat into burgers right in front of the guests. Hence arose the origin of our famous slogan, “In Sight It Must Be Right.” After 79 years, we are continuing Steak n Shake’s tradition of serving the country’s best, freshest, and tastiest burgers and shakes.

Worst experience ever. We have been through the drive thru a handful of times, but decided to dine in earlier this evening. Walked in and waited about 5 minutes to be greeted and seated (they weren't busy). We were seated and give 2 adult menus, but no menus for our two children. After about 20 minutes, the server came to take our order. We waited another 15, and my husband went to ask for our drinks. Our server was friendly, and doing her best, while other employees seemed to be hanging out. We watched as they ate in the food prep area, and the manager, Candy stood outside with other employees smoking cigarettes by the dumpsters, all while still wearing their aprons. Our children's milkshakes never arrived, our server apologized and said someone kept erasing our order. We went to pay the bill, and cancel the milkshakes, and the manager had nothing to say other than "no one else has complained". Untrue - a couple left after ordering saying it wasn't worth the wait, and another family left prior to us unsatisfied with the service as well. Had our children not been asking for milkshakes, we would have never waited that long. We were there about an hour and a half. Will not return!

First time trying Steak n Shake. Had to wait way too long for a table. Had to wait way too long for a server. The food was cold. Order was wrong. Things were missing. It's just bad. Don't come to this one. Go somewhere else.

You can very easily see into the Kitchen, you can tell that it is never cleaned. There were burgers, buns, and toppings all over the floor. Lucky I just went in for the shakes. I am hoping that I got a shake made on one of the clean shake mixers and not one of the dirty ones that I saw.

Steak and Shake is amazing! They're food is wonderful wonderful stuff! The prices were extremely reasonable and the restaurant was very easy for all of my friends to afford (i came in a huge group) and had a great selection for everybody! I would absolutely recommend Steak and Shake to anyone look for real, good quality "fast food" (:

First time we were there it was great. Waitress was friendly and service was speedy. We had our food in no time. Second time I brought 4 of my family. We were seated right away. The waitress was training someone and it took a while for them to get to our table. After taking our order it took quite awhile to get our food. Everything tasted good but we were disappointed in the service. Will try1 more time.
