Story

Stepping Stone Cafe, where "You Eat Here Because We Let You"®, is an original diner in NW Portland. It was built in 1948, and the current owners have owned it since 1999. You might have seen or heard about 'mancakes' in the first season of Man vs. Food.

We're known for our breakfasts, which we serve all hours/all days, but we also serve killer burgers, salads (if you go for that green stuff!) and classic homemade diner dinners like meatloaf and macaroni and cheese.

Portland is home to a lot of great restaurants, and foodies are more common than not. We're very fortunate to have so many loyal customers. We hope you'll come visit us soon!

I've been here several times usually super busy. Luckily today was more mellow. Food has always been good and the staff is friendly. Today the bartender was Matt M. Great guy and awesome ti talk to.

Although it is a convenient neighborhood breakfast place there are definitely better places to shell out 25 dollars.  Not only was the waitress making rude snide remarks about the low quality of their food and the clientele, the pancake I had tasked like dry cardboard.  I was in the middle of a bite when the waitress commented how she would rather fill herself with an omelet than empty flour calories.  Someone that was on the list came in to ask about the availability of seats and they made a joke about how she looked like a flailing dolphin by the way she gestured with her arms.  If you are a regular and friends with these people you might get preferential treatment if not watch out!

The badass omelet is amazing!! It's enormous and easily feeds 2 adults with some leftover. Chicken fried steak, onions and pepper inside a huge omelet smothered with gravy and served with a huge biscuit. Truly the best breakfast!

I love this cafe. My fiance and I have eaten her twice, but each time has been a very pleasant experience. Great food, great service, and a fun/quirky atmosphere. We venture from Vancouver, WA to have breakfast here and it's always worth the drive. Beautiful little neighborhood
