The Table of Contents isn't a restaurant per se, but rather a family dining experience along with guests of the hotel. I believe it is dinner only with only one seating per day with reservations, if enough reservations are made (otherwise they cancel dinner). It is served in a dining hall/conference room in the lower level of the hotel. Seating and serving is family style, so half the fun is meeting and conversing with the new people at your table. The food and service were both three star, but the ambiance and experience is four star. The menu includes entries that are a bit off the beaten path with refreshing flavor choices, although presentation and preparation are conventional. It's all very unpretentious and enjoyable. This is the top pick in the Newport area for adventure seekers. Call first, but definitely include it in your visit. Arrive early and check out the hotel's charming library and puzzle room while you wait for dinner to be called. It's a clever theme hotel, the subject of which is left to the reader to discover.

Food with a view in a fun hotel. Each room is themed for an author. Tours of rooms are possible if you ask. Back to family style dining with socialization designed into the experience. Most people sitting at the table every time we have been were wonderful to get to know through the Lies and Truth stories we each tell about ourselves. The food is well prepared with excellent taste. There are always a few limited menu choices that have not displeased despite dining three times over the last few years. Salads are fresh and crisp and clean. Soups were tasty and not over salted nor greasy like some places are prone to serve. Main course was enjoyable as well. I am not stating what we ate since I am going off the general impressions left from multiple times dining in the daylight basement of the Sylvia Beach Hotel. Bottom Line: Will I return? Yes, definitely.

My Mother and I were on a "school" trip up to Newport and the restaurant that had be chosen was the Tables of Content. At first I was looking forward to the experience. What a big disappointment. First the group was told that we were going to have five courses in our meal. I do not consider salad, bread, soup and dessert to be five courses. The "soup" was some sort of fish mess that really did not taste good and when my Mother informed the waitress that she was allergic to fish, the waitress became even more rude than she already had been. To be asked, Weren't you told what was going to be on the menu, was totally uncalled for. Then the winter vegetable soup we were given was COLD. I do not think I will go any where near that restaurant again.

By far the best restaurant in and around Newport. Very upscale five-course dinner. Served family style.
