I had a shockingly bad experience here last week. A saleswoman was surly and rude to me. I asked her if she would find me a size and, without checking the system, she just stood there and gave me the old "if it's not out, we don't have it." Moments earlier, a different saleswoman very kindly checked her iPad and found that they had a size I needed in a back room or somewhere. I told this to the surly saleswoman and suggested the size might also be "somewhere in the back." She flatly said, "it's not." Not, "I'll check and, if it's not, let's order it online." Not, "I'm sorry, I just check that size for someone else so I know we don't have it." All I could do was say, "okay then," feel like an idiot and go back to the dressing room. Surly Saleslady - you won. Feel better now? Pretend to check and THEN tell me you don't have it. Don't make me feel stupid for asking. Sometimes, when you check, you DO have it! In the window??? On a hold rack that someone never came back for??? Eventually a very nice saleswoman, Gail, helped me look for this size. As Gail and I walked toward the back room, the surly one snarled to Gail, "I ALREADY TOLD HER WE DON'T HAVE IT." That stung. She clearly meant me to hear her. I worked up my courage and said, "Excuse me, I'm standing right here, and that's kinda rude," to which the surly one replied, "WHATEVER." Would you ever say "Whatever" to a customer? Ouch!! Gail and Sonia are both excellent saleswomen. One of them told me this other woman "sometimes has bad days." That's unfortunate, but if she feels better when she treats someone badly, she's doing serious damage to the Talbots brand. Talbots management, train the surly saleswoman to turn her mood around before she aims it at a customer.
