First of...if you've owned a restaurant since 1948 and you're still in business...well you're doing something right. I loved the simplicity of the perfectly cooked brisket, ribs and sausage. The flavor of the meat came through in every bite. Kissed by the aromas of post oak. Mr. Mares shared his tips and advice and served as a gracious host greeting and thanking everyone. This way of doing business is lost on most. A must visit spot...before a piece of Americana is lost forever.

Great old school BBQ venue, loved the rustic atmosphere but the BBQ was decent but not on point in my book, however It was great to meet the owner, World War II Veteran, Vencil Mares.

I have never written this phrase before, but here goes: OMG! This place is a time capsule experience to the old dives that used to be all over and have pretty much disappeared. Taylor Cafe has been serving Taylorites since 1949...and I don't think they have remodeled (or cleaned) since they opened their doors. And I love it! Food is surprisingly good. I guess when you only have about 5 choices on the entire menu, you get good at those things. Wish they would add draft beer. That would make it 6 stars!

Being somewhat a local, (20 miles is considered close here in Texas) I've had the great pleasure of meeting and sitting with Vinsel, the 80-something year old owner and founder of the Taylor Cafe. Vinsel was a combat medic in WWII, has met oodles of celebrities and various other bigshots, and has more stories than the Brothers Grimm. You can find him every day at his table, greeting customers, friends and neighbors who are all big fans of Vinsel's. So drive to Taylor, TX and park in the shade of the bridge over the train yard where the Taylor Cafe is, and go inside and meet ol' Vinsel. Tell him Jack sent you.
