Teich Toys & Books is a delightful family-run toy shop located in NYC's West Village.

Story

Teich (pronounced tie-sh) is a family-run business based in New York City’s West Village with two boutiques that celebrate small-batch manufacturing and handcrafted design. The brand is a creation of husband-and-wife team, Allison Teich McGowan and JJ McGowan, who saw a need for a new kind of gift shop in their neighborhood

Their first store, Teich, opened in Abingdon Square in 2011 and offers a thoughtful mix of gifts and accessories for men, women and home. Soon after their son Leo was born, Allison and JJ began stocking Teich with children’s products. Before long, the demand was high and the idea for a new store was born.

Teich Toys & Books opened down the street in June 2014 and has a collection of engaging and inspiring products for kids of all ages. Also look for weekly puppet shows, story hours and art activities, coming soon.

This store is amazing! Not only is it a local small business but it is Family Owned started by an amazing couple.  The selection of toys is a delight!  I always find something that I want and so does my daughter. She LOVES the decor and likes to pretend to drive the wooden train they have in the store. If you get a chance stop in and you will be glad you did!

I just wanted to drop a review saying how well I was treated at the Teich Toys Store. I came in with questions about a certain toy for a relative of mine and was very impressed with your employees. One woman showed me several items that were on displayed and couldn’t be anymore thankful for her help. I guess what really impressed me was how family friendly the people working at the store are. I was treated with the upmost respect and felt as if I was apart of their family. They made me feel as if I were a rock star. This type of service is becoming extinct. You see more and more young people at retail establishments that simply just don’t care. The Teich Toys staff and service is simply amazing and I’ll be happy to shop here again!

Love this place! This toy store has everything - new and classic toys, educational and developmental toys and puzzles, art supplies and craft activities, and a great selection of books. It’s so fun to bring kids in because they have a life size train and plenty of space to sit and read. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and can recommend toys for the right age. Prices are very reasonable, I will definitely be back often.

Last year we bought all our Christmas gifts for our kids here.  The staff was really helpful... they knew a lot about their toys, but they also made some great suggestions that I would not have chosen and the kids LOVED those toys too.  The book section has lots of great ideas, too!

Awesome selection of unique toys. I always come here for gifts and find great things for different aged kids. They hand wrap everything and it always looks beautiful (and impresses my friends at parties).
