Story

In Manhattan in 1965, there was no place where people could go out to meet friends and make new ones in an environment that was at once both relaxed and yet exciting. Then, Alan Stillman opened Fridays as a way, he said, “to meet Pan Am stewardesses.” Suddenly, there was a place with great food, new and exciting drinks and an electric energy. A place where bartenders mixed the environment just as well as they mixed drinks. In short, a place like nowhere else. Today, Fridays in Hackensack, NJ is still America’s most iconic bar and grill. We embrace and celebrate our heritage as a bar. One that just happens to serve killer food in an environment where it’s always Friday.

This place does not even deserve one star. Today I waited 40 minutes for a cheeseburger which I actually called in and ordered to pick up. I walked to the bar and was ignored by the bartenders for five minutes I had to go out of my way to catch the attention of an employee just to tell them that I ordered for pick up. From there it took an entire 40 minutes for the employee to bring my food out of the kitchen. I asked the manager does it normally take 40 minutes to cook a cheeseburger he had no comment. He had no apology and he did not offer any type of compensation for this unacceptable lack of professionalism. On top of that this is a reoccurring situation me and my girlfriend have to experience several times a week when ordering from this restaurant. Every employee in that restaurant deserves to be fired. It has come to a point where me and my girlfriend cannot even eat at this restaurant because there is always an issue. THIS IS THE MOST GHETTO RESTAURANT IN ALL OF NEW JERSEY DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!

Ordered a chicken quesadilla and got no chicken. The guacamole was brown, so I had it sent back for a fresh batch. The music was turned up so loud it felt like a club. The manager had to turn it down without me having to ask. Pretty bad experience and I usually like Fridays. At least they had decent beer on draft and the fries and tomato basil soup was good.

Rushed service from wait staff while the place was almost empty. The Jack Daniels rib was not cooked properly and that’s a dish that is hard to mess up with that delicious sauce. Guac was nit fresh at all. This game lace used to be one of the best run Friday’s but it has gone way down. Avoid.

This past Friday I went there to celebrate my friends birthday (Note: today is Tuesday and the fact that I’m still baffled by it after 4 days means my experience must have been really bad). We got the waitress with the biggest attitude ever. The first thing the waitress decided to do is complain to us about how she barely gets tip (we found out why later on) and how the 2 for $15 will be taken out the menu in the future because it’s not making her any money(Why do we need to know how that?). Then, when we were ordering, she couldn’t seem to understand what we wanted and made us repeat ourselves more than 3 times. After, the food took forever to get to the table and it wasn’t even hot. Our waitress got annoyed at the fact that we kept on looking at her when she passed by us (because we wanted to know what tf was taking so long) and had an attitude about it. She also told us that why we didn’t ask HER about the different wing sauces when it’s HER job to tell the customer what is available to them. Finally, one of my friends got up to discretely tell the waiters in the back to sing happy birthday to the birthday boy so he would be surprised. Our clueless waitress came back and asked in front of everyone INCLUDING the birthday boy if we wanted the song with the dessert or just the song 🤦🏽‍♀️. Oh, and then when we gave her the check back with a debit card and $20, she left with out asking how we wanted to pay but we assumed that common sense would kick in and she would know to pay with the cash first. She had the audacity to come back and ask if we wanted to charge the card first or the cash first! WHY WOULD YOU THINK WE WOULD TIP YOU, AND TIP YOU $20?!?!?!?! I don’t know how this place has a 3.3. Bad customer service and cold average tasting food. Some advice: don’t hire people who have no customer service skills, who are rude, unmotivated, and are oblivious to social cues. If they’re miserable working at that job, that is not the customers fault.

Mixed review depending on food but server was EXCELLENT. Service quick and accurate and checked back regularly. We were Traveling and tired so didn’t send the salad back (see food review below) but our waiter noticed it wasn’t eaten and altho we said he didn’t need to comp it, he arranged to anyway which we really appreciated. 2 for $14 menu good: medium steak and bacon wrapped shrimp was really tasty; chicken fingers and Mac n cheese standard; chicken Caesar salad not good. Way too much low quality lettuce, too much dressing and chicken pretty bland. The slushees are really good w free refills now. Milkshake too full of ice crystals. Overall I’d say below average for this chain.
