Came here on a Monday morning for breakfast right as they opened. The building is historic and interior is delicate. The food is well made, drip coffee is great as well. They have a selection of sweets when you walk in, range from apple strudel to cinnamon rolls. Our waiter was very friendly. The only weird thing was the seating rules. I needed a table for 3, me and my friend were already at the restaurant and we waited for another friend to arrive, who was less than 5 minutes away. The hostess said she couldn't seat the two of us "until our whole party was here". This didn't make much sense because each table has four seats...

What a delightful place to dine at. Simply amazing. The food is so rich in flavor and so filling. I didn't want to leave. My wife had the breakfast platter and I had the chicken and waffles. It all was so good. And of course I tried my wife's food. I tried all of her food 🙂. I was super hungry and she offered. I also had the hot chocolate which was like getting a hug from a loved one. It just held you in a place of content. I was satisfied, which is no easy task. If I'm ever in San Antonio again I'll be stopping by The Guenther House.

Nice place. There's usually a wait on weekends, but you can get the vibrating pager and walk around the house and gift shop while you wait. Brunch is good. Service is good as well.

I live in Austin and I make excuses to go to San Antonio so that I can eat at The Guenther House. All of their baked goods are fantastic, as is their house roast coffee. Just about every time I'm there I will leave with a bag of their coffee beans and maybe some pancake mix. That said, make sure you go there with time to kill. I don't think I've ever waited less than 45 minutes for a table (weekend brunch time though), however if it's a nice day they have a great outdoor waiting area with complementary coffee and water while you wait. They also have a pastry counter that you can get to eat while you wait or take to go. All in all: I can't recommend this play enough. It's so good.

Carl came to America from Europe and started a pioneer flour mill. Later built his home along the San Antonio River for water support for his production of pioneer flour mill. His son later reconstructed the home in 1902 by his son and it was then later converted to a restaurant and gift shop. The Strawberry waffle was fantastic. Nice atmosphere. Must go to is the gift shop upstairs.
