Story

The Living Desert is a 1200 acre facility that specializes in the plants and animals found throughout the deserts of the world. Many exotic and endangered species can be seen in natural surroundings such as bighorn sheep, oryx, cheetahs, wolves, striped hyenas, thick-billed parrots, leopards and golden eagles. The botanical gardens represent over 1500 species, indigenous to the arid areas of North America and Africa. A state-of-the-art wildlife hospital allows visitors to interact with the staff while procedures are being performed on animals. A children's discovery center and desert play park, live animal shows, endangered species carousel, G-scale garden railroad, and many other features can be found in this unique zoo which sits in the middle of the Coachella Valley, just 15 miles east of Palm Springs.

Fun outing with family. Feeding the giraffes was the best part by far. The discovery center is a great place to take a break and cool down during the heat of the day. Some animals aren't here the entire year so call before going to check.

I've been to Palm Springs before but never to this zoo. It's a must-see for a reason. I love how low key it is. The volunteers walk the lizards through the pathways! So cute to see. Most of the animals seem like they have ample space but some of the small cats look so cramped. 😔 Great display of desert animals from Africa and North America. Great for people to learn about how cool Desert animals actually are

This was our second visit, we loved it so much we bought a season pass for two, which was a great deal. It came with two free guest passes that we used for our friends the first day, and two free giraffe feedings. I think it saved us money on the first day! And it allows you to enter the zoo two hours earlier than most. Great deal, beautiful zoo. The volunteers made our experience seem very personal. Highly recommend.

Family friendly . Membership fee & daily good prices, as it's a non-profit. Too many attraction fees after paying admittion . Feed animals, ride camels , & go in with butterflies . Our funding helps maintain park & bring new animals . Needs better food options & lower merchandise pricing for locals. Lots of walking . Would highly recommend .

I didn't get to walk around much because of the rain and I was with my mom. However, the trees, the animals that I did get to see, and the rest of nature was beautifully amazing! The variety of birds was awesome as well. Would love to go back to see the entire place.
