The Mineshaft is the evening community gathering place for people who live in Madrid, which makes it an interesting place to visit. I've seen several delightful concerts there, and the beer is excellent. They also serve mixed drinks. The atmosphere is very authentic and warm because this tavern actually served the coal miners of Madrid, long ago. The service is very friendly, and the food is good. I especially like the brisket tacos. The menu is not highly varied, but it is authentic New Mexican cuisine.

May be the only place to get a drink in this town after 6pm, so thank goodness it's a cool spot.  GREAT people, as long as you don't rub the locals the wrong way.  Oh,  one thing.  BRING YOUR OWN WATER if you want any in this town, period.  Not a whole lot of bottled water for sale, and the tap water is so full of sulfur, the health department would probably shut the whole town down, if they had a health department...

THE place to be in Madrid.  If you really want to get a feel for this wonderful town,  our local living room is the place to do it.  Food, drinks, great music, the Mining Museum, bingo, fundraisers and just hanging out.  And The Mine Shaft is all about holidays.  The deck is the perfect place to watch the annual Christmas parade, the Engine House Theater hosts Theater of Death plays at Halloween, and the Crawdaddy Blues Festival (third weekend in May) is a blast.  This place is simply a gem.

Oh my God, this place made me so happy! Not only was the food there on display for you to see and really check out before you ordered it, but it all looks so good and was absolutely 100% fresh. Do you lovely women that work there were so nice and smiled and that is always a plus. Not to mention how affordable and lunch with two sides and two corn bread muffins was. Only $11. Absolutely insane! I will be back.
