The food is good, not necessarily great but this is a classic. The onion rings are great! The frosted orange is really enjoyable as well. If you are in Atlanta you need to come by and try it. The energy in the space is amazing. I think it is always packed. The staff work like an efficient machine. There is so much going on it is hard to take it all in. The bottom line is if you are in Atlanta go to the The Varsity on North Avenue and then take a walk around the Georgia Tech campus to walk off some calories.

How can you not love the varsity? As a Georgia native, this will always be a staple for the people of Atlanta! Everything is still as consistent as it was years ago. One of my favorite menu items is definitely the slaw dogs and onions rings. Slaw is always delicious, crisp, and refreshing. The hot dogs are always nicely cooked and the buns are fresh. The prices are always affordable and portions are plenty to share (or if you’re really hungry). This isn’t the place you want to go though if want a healthy meal or don’t have a lot of time on your hands. If you’re dinning in, you can face some very long lines, but it is worth the wait. Although the food can be greasy, luckily they chose to use a different type of oil that won’t leave you with an upset stomach. I love the Varsity, if you’re a tourist I think you should definitely check out this local gem.

The Varsity is a staple in Atlanta, but over the past several years the quality of service, and customer service in general has severely declined. My recommendation would be to get some secret shoppers to capture the demeanor of their staff and try to work on it. I get it, I wouldn't want to be hustling to get food to guests either, but at best do more than pretend to ignore your customers. Thank goodness for It's notoriety, nostalgic presence, and location; I assure you if it weren't for that I would have long ago written it off. Maybe that's what the ownership is banking on as well.

I grew up in Atlanta and The Varsity was always a fun place to eat. Some of the reasons was the Speedy service and fun atmosphere. I took my 10 and 11 year old do the varsity today. Like always it was fairly busy. We found a short line. We waited 5 to 8 minutes before we even got to the counter. We were only behind one family. I stepped up to the counter and the woman stepped to the side and poured herself a soda and had a few sips without saying a word to me. I ordered our food she gave me the total and I paid. She then walked away for a good 5 to 7 minutes. She came back with our food and put it on our tray. She poured my soda my son soda and grab a cup and walked away for my daughter's frozen orange. Another three minutes later she came back handed her her drink and went and stared at the next customer. The only words she said to us was our total. Very weird no sense of urgency. I will go back because I hope this was a one-time thing.

Not exactly health food but if you're looking for cheap and greasy food then I recommend. The chili dog was good. Fries were quite greasy. The atmosphere resembles a classic diner. Plenty of seating. Free parking is a plus. Service was fine. Definitely a Atlanta landmark.
