Story

When Sam Walton opened his 5&10 on the Bentonville town square in 1950, he had no idea he’d planted the seeds for what would become the global leader in retail, saving millions of people money so they could live better. Today, that humble little dime store is the location of The Walmart Museum. A family-friendly experience in 3 parts, the Museum features a world-class exhibit gallery, Walton’s 5&10, and The Spark Café.

If you're in Bentonville and have a little bit of time to spare, this is definitely worth the stop. The museum tour is self guided and has a Walmart feel to it. There are tons of exhibits and facts about the beginning of Walmart all the way up to present day, although the layout can be a bit confusing. The museum itself is the "cream filling of the Oreo"; there is an old five-and-dime shop at the entrance and a nostalgic ice cream shop at the end. Both are excellent as well and are very cheap. The museum is free.

Interesting, brief and well laid out. The entrance is a 5-10 replica with a great assortment of gift shop stuff. The museum starts with a short, introductory film and then a self guided tour. The finish is a soda fountain staffed by really helpful servers. Well done!

Fun exhibit for those who want to check out the history of walmart. It's interactive and even has a diner/bar that serves ice cream, pie, malts and all kinds of good stuff. Great for a family in my opinion.

Very Worth the Trip to See! Free admission, takes only 45 minutes to see well. See Sam Walton's actual office, left exactly as he left it! And his luxury vehicle, a 1978 Ford Pickup, he touched up himself with the paint with spray cans from his store. : )

Cool place to go! A lot of fascinating information about how wal-mart got started! I would go again! And on the plus side it was free!
