Let's be honest: it's not haute cuisine (and maybe not all of it is even "real" Greek food). It's not the very fastest or the very greatest "fast food" in the world, either, but if you are hungry, you could do a -lot- worse than here by a long shot. 

This is the second location, father east (and with a drive through) than the more "famous" "mystery window" walk-up location at East State and Sixth Street. 

I usually get a messy gyro of some sort or one of their non-messy bulk-bought filo dough spinach pies (these pies look small but are surprisingly very filling); others enjoy(?) their pizza puffs (same idea as the spinach pie, but with pizza-like filling). The baklava is tasty. The fries are "ginormous" portions. The pop is Pepsi products. The napkins are usually not enough (you'll probably need a few extras). 

You've likely had some of this stuff made better, from better-looking places, and so on, but Uncle Nick's is a Rockford institution for a reason I cannot completely understand beyond their really late night operating hours and their affordable prices (and there being few gyro places in the area, and fewer places to eat real Greek food). The sometimes long lines generally move quickly enough, so your wait won't be as long as you think it will be. Yes, there is significantly better food in Rockford than from here, but sometimes you just want something cheap, filling, sometimes messy, and relatively fast to get and eat, and Uncle Nick's is your place at almost all hours of the day/night to do so.

Definitely make it a point to stop and pick up a gyro passing through Rockford for the last 20 years. The new location is named much safer place in the old location.  Customer service is not interpersonal but it is fast and never messes up my order!

I used to love this place. At some point in the last two years it's become truly awful. Of the last 4 visits I've had something wrong with everything. Fries both cold and burnt. Sandwiches made incorrectly. Wrong drinks given. Chicago dogs prepared using polish sausages. What puts it over the edge is the crappy attitude that accompanies the mistakes. There's is zero willingness to correct the issues or even acknowledge wrongdoing.

Food is delicious and very fast. The service is always nice and welcoming. Love this place!

Definitely worth considering for late-night  fast food.  Although known for gyros, Uncle Nick's has beef, burgers, dogs and other menu items definitely worth considering.  

The biggest drawback is something beyond their control; the streets surrounding their parking lot resemble the surface of the moon at times.
