This 1-star review is for one of the teachers, Jennifer Yarbrough. I am posting this review to save other children from having to go through what my children went through with this woman. If you want a teacher who does not allow a single day off from practice for any reason and who will expel you for not practicing during Thanksgiving break, you have the perfect teacher! She suddenly walked out on our first lesson after Thanksgiving without warning or explanation when I told her that we didn’t take our violins with us and did not plan to take violins with us on family vacations in the future. She just stood up, said “Excuse me” and left the room. We did not know where she was or what she was doing, so we waited. She was gone for 20 minutes and then came back and told my sons to pack up their violins and leave because we weren’t her students anymore. It was horrible. There were only 2 more lessons left for this year! She could have just finished 2 more weeks of lessons and then not renewed for next semester. Or if she really hated teaching my children so much and couldn’t stand them (they have always been polite and cooperative during lessons), she could have let them go gently and talked to me privately, instead of just disappearing without explanation and then showing up 20 minutes later telling them to pack up and leave. I cannot believe how extremely unprofessional and unkind she was, especially to young children. I did not realize until today that Jennifer does not allow any breaks and that SHE REQUIRES STUDENTS TO TRAVEL WITH THEIR VIOLINS and that violating that policy is grounds for immediate expulsion. As I was leaving, she told me that her 365 policy is in the 40+ sheaf of pages she hands out to parents … I obviously did not memorize all that fine print. Her rationale was that people eat every day so they should practice every day. Violin practice is not food. You die without food. She does not seem to understand that all human beings need a break sometimes. Violin-playing muscles need a break sometimes, too. Jennifer is incredibly controlling and has completely unreasonable expectations for both parents and children. She has no grace and zero tolerance for people who do not submit to whatever she says 100%. Her attitude towards violin is fanatically religious and the level of control she demands over her students is cultic. She had been giving my boys 100 charts with tiny pictures for them to colour. They were supposed to finish them in a week, which they did faithfully. They rather enjoyed colouring in the little pictures. Before Thanksgiving, she gave my 6-year-old a 1000 chart with 1000 tiny squares on it. Understably, he was not happy. Though he said nothing to her in class and just took the paper quietly, he completely balked at home, which is a pretty natural (and healthy!) reaction for anyone who is told to do the same thing 1000 times. I thought his feelings were natural and I asked her if we could do ten 100 charts instead of a 1000 chart. She said no. Then we were gone for a few days for Thanksgiving and we practiced while we were at home (we actually even worked on that 1000 chart) but we did not take our violins with us. I guess that was unforgivable. She was my sons’ teacher for 2 months. I regret ever hiring her. I felt it was a red flag when she required an interview which she charged $100 for before we were allowed to have lessons with her. The whole interview was insanely detailed directions about what to do. She seemed like a good teacher despite all the rules so I went ahead with it. Do not make the same mistake I did. Stay away from her. Find a teacher who is kind and warm. There are many other human beings in the world who actually have good hearts, care about their students, and will not put them through what she put my children through, suddenly cutting them off that way without warning. She is definitely a talented teacher. She is "kind" if you do exactly she says. If you don't submit to her completely, though, she will kick you out, and not in a kind way. Zero tolerance.

A nice campus in Tacoma that looks nice and has plenty of space for being a small college. The trees make it seem removed from the residential neighborhood it is in.

Beautiful campus. Parts of the aesthetic remind me of Hogwarts.
