Uptown Cheapskate

About

Uptown Cheapskate is Bel Air's hottest new Buy-Sell-Trade store. We pay cash for your fashionable clothes, shoes, and accessories!

Story

Uptown Cheapskate offers gently worn brand name fashion at a fraction of the prices paid in malls, department stores and specialty boutiques.
Uptown Cheapskate provides a new way to shop. We stand behind the tag lines “buy sell exchange” and “our cash, your clothes …lets trade”. Our concept is quite simple. We buy and sell gently worn like new items at prices that everyone can get excited about. Free People, True Religion, Roxy, American Eagle and Steve Madden are some of the brand names that they’re looking for.
Uptown Cheapskate pays cash on the spot for the items that we’re able to sale and offers to donate any remaining items that you bring in. The core customers are male and female between the ages of 13-35. Someone with a great fashion sense but that may be unwilling to spend tons of money on brand name clothing.
Uptown Cheapskate is a second-hand store without the usual grunge and clutter, with clean lines and well-organized racks of clothes -- topped by a funky selection of shoes, bags and accessories. But as with any second-hand store, the adventure is seeing what treasures are buried among the other stuff.

They were able to take most of my items that Plato’s closet refused to take. I also love the clothes they get in from others.

The employees are okay, a few of them are really nice. As far as selling, I’ve stopped selling here. I was pleased the first time, not the second third and fourth time. I now sell my clothes at Plato’s Closet. So worth it!! I sold clothes there and got $107.00 back, If I sold the same items at Uptown Cheapskate they probably would’ve offered me less than $10. And their used clothes are too expensive for the condition they’re in also. I used to love this place. Not anymore.

Would not recommend selling at this location. I'm giving them 2 starts purely because the store is always clean and the displays are organized in a logical manner but other than that, I don't have many good things to say about the Bel-Air location. As other customers who left reviews have stated, they give you absolutely ZERO money and they always seem to come up with some excuse as to why your items can't be taken. Everything I've ever taken in there has been in very good condition, freshly laundered/folded neatly, and has been a recent style (recent being last 2 years because this is what they tell you they're looking for.) The last time I went to sell my items, I took in a brand new Kenneth Cole purse that retails at $95 and the tag was still attached along with the paper stuffing on the inside. I also took in 2 huge tote bags full of clothes and they offered me $25 cash for the items they were taking. I asked to see them first before I decided I wanted to take the money and the items they were taking were an under Armour hoodie, under Armour sweatpants, under Armour shorts, a brand new pair of nude pumps, and the Kenneth Cole purse. All of those name-brand items for only $25??? The only reason I was even selling the clothes is because I've lost weight and can no longer fit them but they were practically new. I asked if I could take the purse back and I told the guy (I believe he is the manager) that I knew it would change the amount they were offering me but that I didn't care. He took the purse off and the amount only went from $25 to $20...CRAZY! Just beware if you are selling here...

This store was just okay, nothing to rave about. After looking at the pictures on Google it made me want to check it out, as a purchasing customer, since I didn't have the intention of selling anything. I donate the clothing I no longer want to Goodwill. They had some bohemian/hippie looking blouses, which is my style, but honestly the store was grossing me out. The whole concept of wearing other people's clothes is yucky to me. Why would I want shoes that someone else put their nasty feet inside of??? You have to think realistically, there are people who have foot fungus. Plus the clothes were somewhat beat up. I was done when I saw a pair of sneakers that were dirty beyond comprehension. Why they would take an article of clothing in such poor condition I have no idea. I wouldn't bother with this place, it's a waste of time. You're better off going to a discount store like Marshalls or Gabriel Brothers. Uptown Cheapskate is disgusting. If you're a germophobe like I am stay away!

I spent a lot of time prepping clothes, an hour round trip, and waited 45 minutes while I was there just to be told that they don't take blankets :/ so I was like uh blankets? She said yeah the Raven's blanket... Uh that's called a scarf.. They didn't even look through the box, everything was exactly as I gave it. She said they were being very picky and only taking things that were bought at the mall in the last two years and that they are being really picky about jeans. So when I came in the day before to ask the hours that they were buying clothes, they should've told me that then so I wouldn't waste my time and gas. She said I could bring fall items back as it gets closer to fall. I told her I wouldn't be wasting anymore of my time on this place. UPDATE: So I decided to try one more time when I had some "mall" clothes to donate. Again spent time prepping the clothes, made sure they were clean, in perfect shape and neatly organized. I stood there and watched them go through it. Some Aeropostale and American Eagle shirts and jeans and a few other things. They did actually go through each thing piece by piece. Then proceeded to tell me they didn't want any of it. So I told them about how on my last visit they told me about only wanting items from the mall so that's what I brought this time. Then she says well most of what you brought was from Aeropostale and we don't take anything from them! Talk about frustrated!!! So DONE with this place!!!!
