If your primary care doctor is bad, you can change to another. My first doctor was bad, the primary I have now is a good doctor. My mental health care is excellent. The ER is also excellent. I have 2 or more trips a year. I had surgery when I was a COVID-19 patient 5 days. Hospital CNA was not happy, but they did their job. I am glad the VA hospital is in Fresno.
I've always heard bad things about going to the VA in the past. However as now the VA is my primary care facility, I must say, I am very pleased with everything. My Dr. is wonderful and every person I've ever had to deal with there has been wonderful and treated me with respect. So to them I say thank you for making my experiences so wonderful.
What used to be a reoccurring derm treatment appt every 6 months at my last VA is an absolute nightmare here. Its always something. This last time my appt gets canceled multiple times. When I finally get in a year later, it's a 90 second sit down virtual appt on if we want to continue tx. Could this not have been an email, phone call, etc? Spent more time looking for parking and waiting for elevators. Just to get told we'll treat ya in 3 months if it doesn't get cancelled multiple times again. Miss my last VA. The ppl are all very nice and try to be helpful, I'm sure it's just lack of funds and space limitations in a thousand year old building. Then I look like a jerk which is on me but I'm frustrated bc ive seen it be better at other facilities for not being engaged as my next appt is being made but I have zero faith that the next appt will actually happen so just make it for whenever you want and I'll wait for the rescheduled notice.
My Husband Has Been Coming Here For 50 Years & Still, He Longs For Proper & Efficient Treatment Mental Health Is Really A Joke, Also: They Denied My Husband Of Having A.D.H.D. The Sooner He Find Medical Services Outside Of The VA, The Better For Us
The first few years after I was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard I didn't realize I was Allowed v a benefits, so I used HMO from various employers for years until I realized I qualified. I have to say I have consistently received 1000% better care with the VA than with the private sector. I get my appointments within a week, usually, versus waiting two to four months with a non-VA provider. The staff there are compassionate and clearly go the extra mile for veterans. Regular hospitals I've been were cold and callous, but at the Fresno VA, one is treated respectfully and with deep care. I am very grateful to the doctors and other staff there--highly recommended. These low ratings make me wonder if these folks realized how fortunate they really are.
Just gotta be honest here, most of the staff at this specific VA hospital are rude, looks like they hate their job, does not know what they're doing, lazy, no common sense nor critical thinking skills, incompetent, etc. How could they give a medication solution to a patient without syringes or anything to draw the meds and inject it with? That's just one example of how they think. Simply put, don't know how they were hired when there are a lot of applicants out there who are deserving of the job that these people have. Too bad, the VA hires bad and disrespectful employees. Some of the front desk workers at this specific VA are just there to work and socialize when they have no idea what is going on with the hospital. These same employees are very loud too talking about personal things which is very unprofessional. The way they respond to an upset patient is ridiculous when it is their fault. When the patient asks them something, they do not even direct the patient to the right person who can help. It is about time that the VA hires employees based on their attitude and not just their "impressive" resumes that most of the words listed in that resume are bunch of lies This same VA tells their patients to get their fasting labs done before the primary care doctor's appointment only to be told by the labs personnel that there's no lab ordered for them when the veterans get to the labs. No communication between patient care team at all. This VA needs to do staff cleaning which getting rid of employees who do not perform HCAPS, lack customer service skills, and no Healthcare skills. It's time to hire healthcare professionals through their work and professionalism. It's very sad that many veterans say the VA is bad. No peeps, the VA is NOT bad. It's their employees who have no skills and lack compassion because of their mentality that veterans are already getting healthcare for free when these same employees don't even know how hard most of the veterans worked in the service just to be treated nasty. If you file a complaint about an employee or anything here, brace yourself because nothing is really done about it which makes sense that their employees are confident that they'll always have a job here. I can only hope that this ugly and nasty VA will close down.
Lazy head nurse in the ER department. Went in for shooting pain and asked me “do you not have Tylenol or ibuprofen at home?” Why do you work in the healthcare system if you don’t want to work period.
Don't bother trying to contact records. I've called numerous times requesting imagery be sent to Optum for a claim. The records voice mailbox has been full for the lost 6 months.
Excellent Staff, Physicians, Administration, Nurses, Security, and Officers, Greeters, Volunteers, Cleaning Services
VA health in Fresno does a great job taking care of veterans. Major and recent renovations have really improved the hospital, and looks very modern for an older building, great job . Very informed and helpful staff. Been going to this facility for many years, only downside is the high turnover of doctors due to majority being interns and of course the neverending challenge of parking : But always good to see the "regular staff" doctors there taking care of us veterans, many thanks for all you do for all of us!!
