Story

The Roseburg VA Medical Center (RVAMC) consists of one Veterans Health Administration (VHA) facility located in Roseburg, OR, the Eugene Healthcare Center (HCC),and the VA Clinics located in Brookings and North Bend, OR. The Roseburg campus consists of 200 acres and 32 buildings. RVAMC offers primary care and hospital services in medicine, surgery and mental health for the 62,000 veterans who reside in Central and Southern Oregon.

The receptionist on the phone was rude and not knowledgeable. I was trying to establish care and also get some information on how to get procedures covered under the VA by outside doctors through the choice program. I was made to feel like it was my fault for not knowing exactly what was needed and she was just rude in general. If I actually had a choice I would never deal with this VA, but unfortunately my options are limited.

I showed up in ER on a Saturday night. Was treated like garbage. Less than garbage. I had a very bad infection in my mouth. I ended up in the ER 3 times in one night because the pain was so bad. I was in tears, lost most function, and was almost passing out from the pain. The ER doctor stuck needles in my mouth, but refused to address the infection & pain. He missdiagnosed and treated the wrong thing. The infection was the source of the agony. You will be treated like a low down drug seeker. If you show up here in more pain then you can handle, you will remain in pain, and get a lecture about pain meds. While I was in agony he proceeded to tell me that Europe doesn't treat pain, and pain meds where over prescribed. He didn't need to prescribe anything. He could of done the right thing & treated the pain on the spot. Not once did I ask for a script. I was treated like less than garbage. And I left in agonizing pain.

I am so grateful for having such wonderful volunteers that help make our jobs a little easier. ..our staff work diligently to serve my fellow veterans. We truly stand behind President Lincoln's motto to serve those who have borne the battle.  I am proud to to be
 part of this great VA health care system and
 vow to always do my best to serve my fellow
 veterans to the best of my ability.

Terrible care. The Roseburg and North Bend VA are tied together. Right hand doesn't know the left hand. Communication is very poor. I am still waiting for an appointment 2 months later. Still no call. Not the first time. My actual doctor in North Bend is great. But the process to get appointment etc. Is very lacking. Their notices that are sent out tell you time and date and that is it. So if you multiples appointments good luck. I am currently fighting a 9mm kidney stone. I can't pass it. Doctor was suppose to.pass along to urology dept to get me set up for sremoval of the stone. A week later urology has no record for me to have it removed and I was told to drive 2.5 hours back to the ER in Roseburg to see if they can redo my paperwork and basically start over again. Really. No faith in this VA system. They obviously don't care about you as a patient.

Now assigned a tele-doctor. When I complained of serious breathing issues my DR. told me that "some people just have bad lungs". Now at age 55 my "bad lungs" have led to a heart attack and I'm sure an early death to follow.there must be something that can be done after cardiac arrest other than wait for my next annual examine with a T.V. screen.  Doesn't someone want to run a test of some sort??  Hello, I'm a disabled veteran in need of help.
