My mom is currently staying here while she recovers from an emergency room visit (this is her second day). She says that the food is good and the staff is friendly and attentive. She likes to read the newspaper and they located one for her, which was a plus. She says that the physical therapist is a really nice person and seems to be very professionally friendly. I usually visit her at night so I can attest to the night crew, which is a nice polite and attentive bunch of people. My brother says that he has only met nice staff members there so far. My cousin said that he had some issue with parking (the parking lot was full when he visited around noon). Last night when I visited, I got turned around and went through the Memory Care part of the facility, and the people all appeared to be doing fine and appeared to be happy. I managed to set the alarm off on the Memory Care side (whoops) and the Med Aide came and helped me and was very patient and polite with me (and pretty funny). So far, the place seems to be a nice one.

My mom was admitted today and so far we really like the place. The staff is super sweet. I did not see a grumpy staff person in the place (and I looked on purpose). The staff member that came into mom's room was named Marisa (I may not have spelled that correctly) and she was very attentive and when I left, she was laughing and making little jokes with mom (and mom was enjoying it). My brother and my cousin were also impressed with the politeness of the staff when they visited mom earlier in the day. No one seemed stressed and everyone seemed attentive. The people that I met that were on the 'long term stay' side seemed happy and the staff seemed to take time to talk to each of them in a respectful and friendly manner. The place was clean and the dinning rooms were cute with nice little tablecloths on them. The rooms were fairly large (in comparison to other similar care places that I have seen). Not sure what else to say because this was my first time there, but so far it looks and feels like a nice place.

If you care for you lived one, do NOT place them in this facility. Our mother was in this facility and she did not receive the care she needed. Our family had to go over daily because we worried about her care. There were no other openings in Eugene, so we had trouble trying to move her. They are all about profit and the nursing staff was too busy to do their jobs. Daily we had to go over and change her depends, wet clothes, and clean her up. The staff at the North station was too busy to be able to take care of all the patients. If you are private pay the care is better. If you have insurance, the care goes out the door. It is all based on how much money and profit they can make, not about care for your loved one. They were even too busy to give her the care she needed on the day she passed away. I know because I was there caring for her on the last day. This place and management should be ashamed of themselves.

My great-grandmother is staying there because she has cancer and the treatments were hard on her energy level so she got pneumonia and fell down and needed a place to rest and do therapy for two weeks (long story, sorry). I went there today and it looks pretty okay there. She says the people are super nice. She had a problem with the heater in her first room so they moved her to a new room. She says the food is good but sometimes they get the orders mixed up and give her too much food but it's always good. She says that she really likes her physical therapist and her breathing specialist. Maybe it's not a five star hotel, but it seems like a nice place so far, and she likes the people a lot, so I'm giving it five stars for her.

After visiting this facility and reviewing the comments, I feel led to clear up a few misconceptions about rehab/ nursing care facilities in general. I agree they are understaffed, but it isn't because the facility is not hiring.... this is a multifaceted problem, this is not new. The board of nursing dictates the ratios in these facilities. For example, it is considered in "compliance" at (1) CNA per 9.5 residents/ patients. While that seems reseasonable to the average person, staff that work in these facilities would strongly disagree. The acuity ( level of care needed) has become much higher in recent years. Occupants in these places are coming to these facilities more obese and have several difficult medical and mental needs. Most are not mobile in long tern care, which means we need lifts and hopers to move them around. I do agree that there are staff that do not care and are just there to collect a paycheck. We don't have people busting down the door the work in these facilities. We also have laws that were implemented in the prior administration such as FEMA and sick leave laws that ensure that workers can call in for any reason, multiple times through the course of there employment. You cannot reward good behavior and attendance any longer, because that would be considered hurtful and not "fair". It's really hard to fire someone now. I don't see this changing anytime soon. There are people that care deeply for the sick and elderly, but my best advice is to be that family member that sticks around and is the sneaky wheel. Thanks for reading!
