Last August I was new to Pataskala and needed to find a vet. I chose Village Veterinary Care because it was closest to me. For the past seven years I had always taken my three cats to the Spay & Neuter Clinic on Sawbury Rd in Dublin for their annual shots and paid $90. I fully expected to pay a little more since this was a full veterinary practice, but not $320, which I thought was way excessive. Anyway, I was just glad to have it done for the year and happy to not have to have driven to Dublin. When I arrived home and let my cats out of their carriers, however, I immediately noticed that two of my cats were dragging their back legs, something that I had never seen them do before. I called Dr Rice immediately and told her what was going on. She expressed zero concern for my cats but instead immediately went on the defensive advising me that she only used the highest quality vaccines with the least side effects. She said to just give it a little time, that they were probably just stressed from the car ride and doctor appt. Well, 48 hours later they were still dragging their legs and wincing when I touched their hind quarters. So I drove them all the way back to my old vet in Dublin who examined them and, very diplomatically, explained that they "appeared" to have been injected in a site where you wouldn't ordinarily inject and that they were suffering some pretty significant inflammation and pain as a result. In other words, Dr. Rice doesn't know what she's doing. He gave them both cortisone shots and told me I should see improvement within the week. Total bill: $233.50. Seventy-two hours later, one cat was fine, the other was still dragging and seemed lethargic (not sure if it was from the cortisone or fatigue from dragging his leg around all the time). I again contacted my old vet who told me to come in and pick up some oral prednisone, which meant another trip to Dublin. The prednisone was cheap; I think he only charged me like $8.00. Nevertheless, bottom line grand total: $561.50 + seven hours of my time for annual shots for my cats with Dr. Rice. And then there's the whole flea medication thing. I paid Dr. Rice $150 for three doses of Bravecto. When I went to apply it, though, I noticed that the boxes indicated it was only for cats up to 13.8 lbs. All of my cats weight more than that, so I contacted their office thinking this was an honest mistake on the part of the staff. Nope. I was advised that that was the only size they carried. When I asked them why they would sell me a dosage that was not right for my cats, I was told that Dr. Rice thought it would work anyway. Basically, they sold me what they had on their shelf with the hope I wouldn't notice it was the wrong dosage. I have a small but helpful clue for Dr. Rice: YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT THE CORRECT DOSAGE OF MEDICATION FOR THEIR ANIMALS, NOT THE DOSAGE THAT MAKES YOU MONEY. They did give me my money back and wrote a prescription for 1-800-Pet-Meds, but now this year they won't do the same until I bring one of my cats in for an office visit to be weighed. Right. I'm going to pay this woman another $100+ to weigh my cat. Dr. Rice won't do ANYTHING unless she gets a cut of the action. Dr. Rice's self interest way eclipses any interest she may have in the well being of animals. Her business practices are highly questionable and she grossly overcharges. I have no confidence in her competence with cats, and her personality is rather abrasive. She makes no effort whatsoever to make you feel like an appreciated

Was very happy with vets and care but got really fed up by a woman named Kim that worked the front desk. We are now taking the dogs elsewhere and are more than happy about the professionalism of ALL the staff. Dan S

I really appreciate the vet helping me express my dog's bladder when she first became paralyzed but every since Kim started working there this office has been a pain in the ass to deal with because Kim is too lazy to use a fax machine and send over paperwork to our insurance provider, costing me a lot of money and time, and the office is so technology lacking they can't print to PDF and email what I need or even scan documents. We stopped spending our hard earned money there and switched to Animal Hospital of Pataskala. Never been more happy. How much business will Village Vet lose before they get someone there to manage the office the way a doctor's office should be managed?!?! Working with Insurance companies is any doctors office job! I can't fill out the Insurance form, I'm not allowed to!

The veterinarians are wonderful and very caring, however the receptionist is not. I think her name is Kelly, she is rude and seems to have a bad attitude. I will be looking around for a new vet
