Fortunately our experience with Walden was very positive. After getting an appt 2 months out at a clinic in NH (CEDM) it became increasingly clear we could not wait as my D was becoming lifeless and refusing all food. Not knowing where to turn, a friend of a friend mentioned Walden. When I called, they did an intake on the phone and without hesitation the man said, "it sounds like your daughter needs to be admitted and we have a bed opening up tomorrow. Can you come tomorrow afternoon?" They handled all insurance needs and were helpful with addressing all our Q's and concerns. Inpatient was no joke. Not homey or welcoming, but stark and clinical. Many teenage girls, some boys, some with feeding tubes, and several emaciated adults hanging in the rooms and hallways as it was now early evening and group sessions were finished for the day. For a 14yo with no diagnosed "comorbids," no prior admittances, not on any meds, this environment did what it was supposed to: make her eat 100% of every meal so she could get out of there asap! We visited every night. After a couple days when she became "angry" for being there I felt relieved as she was getting life back in her! Walden got the nutrition into her much quicker than we ever could have and avoided refeeding syndrome. After 10 days she was moved to "residential," also a positive experience. She found a couple girls to connect with and tolerating the hefty increases to her meal plan, though uncomfortable. They were compassionate in helping to alleviate stomach pain, but still enforced the eating. Not pleasant but necessary. Her weight and intake were monitored very closely and she continued to be compliant. Compliance, weight gain and healthy vitals allowed small privileges to be given in return ... toileting with the door closed, participation in the monitored group walk outside, yoga. Eventually she was allowed a "pass" to be taken out with us for a couple hours to do something enjoyable but that also involved eating a snack & juice. This proved harder than I would've imagined but she/we got through it. She progressed to IOP then Partial levels of care where more distress tolerance and other classes were taught. DBT, CBT and FBT are the gold standards of care with Eating Disorders and these are the therapies Walden uses/ teaches. She kept up with her school work that I would gather and bring in and it was almost 8 weeks to the day that my D was discharged almost fully weight restored but still not in great mental health, which is not unusual. The rest of recovery has been taking place at home and via continued therapy. . After almost 3 years, she is now Weight Restored (WR+) and eats on her own, following hunger cues and also just for pleasure. I believe her success at Walden was due in large part to being a "model patient" ... "fitting their mold" without much resistance. Without knowing any better at the start, looking back I know for sure that the tough, early intervention she got at Walden was key to her initial success. And our unified, unwavering approach (learned from Walden) and enforced at home - life stops until you eat - have been paramount to her full recovery with minimum relapses. For us, Walden did what it was supposed to do: saved our daughter's life.

Awful. I hated it there. Long story short. Showed up. Sent me to inpatient when I was really supposed to be in residential. Didn’t even realize until my mom called to say I was in the wrong place. While I was there, attempted suicide, people screaming on phone, meals were microwave meals, just gross. I was scared. Got to residential, people sneaking meds, talking about doing drugs, in an apartment building, random people walking by seeing you. It was just awful. I feel like I got worse instead of better.

They released my daughter unstable, pregnant and off her meds. Sent her home on a train with no keys no phone and no money with her .she only had hospital clothing on. They released her because she was aggressive with another patient .how are they keeping her safe. These people should not have a license to practice

Walden is horrible. Unhelpful. More destructive than constructive. Alcott: Staff was unhelpful. I've gotten things stolen from me from Rose. Rose yelled at me when I was crying and told me to stuck it up. Literally. I was getting tubed and I told her that I've had a traumatic medical past so it would be helpful to please take it slow. I started hyperventilating and crying and she said "Oh, this little thing shouldn't hurt! Suck it up. I had once of these when I was giving birth!" For some reason the tube killlls my sinuses. Not to mention that the traumatic medical experiences really messed with me. I left the door open a crack and the staff didn't notice. I went into the bathroom after a meal and the staff didn't notice I was gone. They eventually realized I was in the bathroom and a bunch of them opened the door and threw me out onto the ground. No restraint. No follow up. No helping me out of my crisis. They just threw me to the ground. The staff don't even work on anything that's physiological while eating disorders are almost 99% physiological. The other 1% is medical stability and that's all they cared about there. They treated us like a disease and not humans. One of the staff members, Paige, triggers everyone on that unit. Everyone talks about her. She looks like she's the one who needs to be tubbed. You should fire her. She does more harm than help. Tiffany is definitely a group favorite. She's the only helpful staff member and every patient knows it. She actually cares about us. Hire more people like her. Resi: When I'm in crisis I need to take space. I told this to staff. However, they made us stay with other people at all times. I also told them that I never found groups helpful yet they forced me to go to them. It was torture. I also hated some of the people I was with. They were very triggering but were forced to be with everyone at all times. Partial: By far the worst of Walden EDs. Each time that I've been there, there's been a toxic group of kids. Some red head chick that doesn't know how to do eyeliner that looked like she belongs in treatment more than any of us told me that this "never happens" (speaking about the toxicity of the group). However, that happened both times that I was in their partial. Every time staff wasn't in the room, the kids would discuss weight loss tips and ways to make it around the weigh-in day by strapping weights to your body. They were eventually sent up to higher levels of care but my mum pulled me out of treatment at that point because everyone was being more triggering than helpful.

I was admitted here in February because of depression and I needed to get my meds straightened out but the treatment I received was far from what I needed and should have received. The first moment I arrived the staff was short so I was left sitting in a chair in the hallway waiting for a nurse I was on suicide watch and from my understanding they where fully aware of that but still left me unattended upon arrival to the unit. Once a nurse finally got to me and checked me for sharp objects she walked me to a main area where their was a old man walking in circles staring at me the nurses behind the desk where on their phones and talking and ignoring the patients. I had to ask multiple times if I could go to my room because they kept saying they didn't have one eventually they got me a room after two hours. I have food allergies and they kept forgetting them so I didn't eat more then a couple crackers for six days. They forgot to give me my medicine for my depression so I got violently ill and the doctors wouldn't help me even though I was so sick I couldn't stand up I also developed a rash and they said they would get cream but never did. The communication between staff was non existent they where under staffed they had no structural therapy patients walked in and out and where allowed to sleep all day or just watch tv there was never any one on one therapy either. patients also rarely met with their assigned social worker and doctor. Overall this place is a nightmare where the staff don't even care about the patients.
