Facility is nice and clean and accessible... was not expecting the extra $12 a month for their insurance coverage and thought I would be able to bring my own lock instead of purchasing one there....however I am excited to clear off my balcony and have climate controlled storage for things I brought from a house with a yard into an apartment! Donald and Frank were helpful and polite and made the process smooth!
If there were zero stars, that would be my rating. Would not recommend for long-term storage. Only 4-6 months term for convenience. You start with an introductory rate then about every 6 months a letter is received that your storage and insurance rate was increased. I called last week to inform them I was going to move out on Saturday because I couldn't rent a truck due to the holiday. Because my payment is due on the first, after the grace period of 4 days your shed is locked and I would have to pay an extra 15%!!! I expected them to pro-rate it since I've been there since 2020. There are tons of storage facilities in the area, go to one of them. End, I paid for month to save 15%. I've seen more employees come and go so that also speaks for the place!!!!!
Service was quick and easy. Very smooth process. The workers are very kind. Great location with lots of units ranging from small to extra large. They even provide carts to help move your stuff from the truck to your unit.
Many are there, temporary storage options in the Charleston, SC market. Sometimes it pays to go off the beaten path.... Beyond the bannering appeal of flashy specials quality does exist. Yet, how does one identify? Using temporary storage both professionally and personally for over 2 decades now, for me, it comes down to a simple formula: ownership assumed by the management, security of facility, ease of access to the facility, cleanliness of facility, and, finally, with all other factors in mind, price per cubic foot. The Smart Stop facility on Wando Park Blvd ticks all of these boxes in high paradigms for me. After being a patron of this facility for over 4 years now I frequently wonder why not sooner. The management and employees, spearheaded by Ayanna, are highly knowledgeable, efficient, clear and concise throughout all aspects of the initial contractual and move in process. As my needs are consistently rubber banding they help me through my business expansions and contractions like seasoned professionals. My visitsnear daily to my units over the duration of my time as a patron have shown me a standard above and beyond their local competitors. Access to the structure is secure and well thought out. The facility easily accommodates multiple trucks and vehicles at the same time, the parking lot and building interior are always cleanI have never seen so much as a spec of dust on my stored items, the lighting is more than adequate, the elevators run smoothly and there is always a smile and a friendly wave from the office whenever anyone walks in. It should be said, and clearly, I have seen the worst, the dirtiest, and, above all, the most poorly managed of these facilities in my time. If you are looking for the antithesis of these experiences you Will be highly rewarded here.
My colleague called to get information on temperature-controlled storage units and requested cost information for a 10x10. She was provided a quote of $60/month and information on insurance requirements for said space since it was for our business in which we secured a certificate of liability insurance with certificate holder details. When we arrived at the facility to secure the space, the reps working said that they would have their District Manager honor the price provided to us via phone. I was surprised that they provided us the keys and unit number but did not go through the terms of the Agreement or have me sign/agree to anything. Upon return to my office, I received an email with the Agreement from SmartStop that someone else has signed for me without my permission and that the price would be $93/month. I had my colleague contact the facility about the price of the unit along with who signed this Agreement for me. Upon return to the facility the next day to move our corporate documents into the space, they advised that they could not honor the price that was quoted and to stop the movers from putting our items into the storage. The conversation went round and round with no foresight on any solution. I advised the two representatives and the DM on the phone that since they weren’t offering any solution that I had to get back to the movers. They proceeded to say that I couldn’t do so without a signed Agreement, in which I replied, “I already have one since you already signed for me”. Needless to say, this was the most unprofessional interaction I have experienced over a simple storage unit. It’s such a small cost to argue about but became more about the principle. I would expect that as a business you would honor the quotes provided on the phone without making the customer seem like a liar. Not one person tried to remedy the situation. What is moreso unprofessional is that they asked me to stop our movers and were happy to turn us away if I wouldn’t accept the price. This should have been settled before we arrived to move our items in.

The BEST storage unit. I have dealt with several units for over 12 years with work and this is by far the best. Clean, organized, SAFE, and great customer service!!!!
Ms. Casey is probably the main reason I am giving 5 stars. Yes, the facility is nice, clean and accessible, however the rate increases recently have been not so great. Ms. Casey went out of her way to find out all information for me and helped me go through all of my options to get the best price. It really meant a lot that she went the extra mile for me.
Ayanna was so helpful, kind and just wonderful! She has gone above and beyond for me from day one. Taking the time to walk me through gaining access / making sure my pin was working properly to helping me getting my lock set up. She is always such a pleasure to talk to, and very understanding when I have all the questions. She truly cares about others and it shows! She is an absolute delight and because of my interactions with her, I will be recommending SmartStop Self Storage to all friends and family who need a storage unit! A truly outstanding experience!
