Story

Nestled within the serene Deerfield Valley of Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest (and only two miles from the base of Mount Snow), our historic home built during the days of Adams and Jefferson continues an important tradition begun over 150 years ago. Originally built as an inn, stage coach stop and tavern, the West Dover Inn has been lovingly restored and now provides 12 quiet, luxury accommodations as well as modern and memorable dining in the 1846 Tavern and Restaurant.

Close to everything, yet far from anything, the inn is an ideal destination for a perfect New England vacation surrounded by Vermont's best skiing, snowboarding, golfing, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding and shopping.

It was our first time there and found it to be a quaint little place with lots of charm. I had a beef tip sandwich which was awesome and my wife had a chicken Caesar salad that was also very good. The wait staff did a great job helping us and the several people that came in after us. It is a good place! You have to try it.

Charming atmosphere, thoughtful menu, delicious food! More details: The Tavern was really cozy and had great acoustics. There was live music the night we came for dinner and it played on the speakers throughout the restaurant which was lovely. The menu was small and focused, but had a great selection of salads, fish and red meat. We opted for the daily specials and were really pleased. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the risotto was flawless. We felt a little rushed and thought there was ab opportunity to diversify their craft beer selection, but otherwise, we enjoyed the ambiance and the food very much!

Flash frozen bread served...it's not even baked in the over, felt like it was microwaved. Cheddar dip was not creme, it was more like of a running soup. Definitely was microwaved as well. I had a house salad with salmon and the salmon was cooked properly. The only reason I'm giving it a 3 star review is due to the waiting staff, which was super friendly. It felt like the staff liked to cook meats, but everything else is microwaved.

I never write reviews but I felt I needed to for this one. We had a pretty terrible experience here. It started with live music far too loud to enjoy the place, there were only 3 other tables there and it over-powered everything. When we first walked in both the bartender and who i guessed was the general manager both looked at us and waited for someone else to get around to seating us before finally coming over. The sole waitress was doing most of the running around. The food was even worse. My entree was clearly reheated pre-cooked food, A short-rib that was bland and still cold on the inside. My husband ordered the same, and though while his was hot through and he ate most of it, he got very sick from it that evening. I also started feeling sick though I did not throw up like he did. On top of all of that, $8 well drinks and no entree under $20. Plenty of better choices around, don’t waste your time or risk your health here.

1846 used to be a good place for pub food and some interesting specials. Since their renovation, I have been back three times for, at best, mediocre food. The menu boasts creativity and hearty dishes, however the delivered product is over priced and short from what seemed to have been promised. On my most recent visit, my table was one of only a handful, during a non busy mid week day. Despite this, I waited for over 20 minutes to order and 45 minutes for the check.
