Story

40 Steak and Seafood is the only steakhouse in the upper midwest that dry ages their own steaks in house. Stop in and take a tour of the dry aging cooler and learn all about dry age steaks.
We never use frozen seafood and fly our seafood in on daily basis.
We use local ingredients whenever possible and our menu changes daily.
Reservations are always a good idea.

Excellent place but be prepared to spend a lot and wait for your food. The price didn't really bother me as you can get some of the best steaks in North Dakota, but we ended up being there for around a 2 hour dinner. Service is always excellent, and drinks have always been good. Food is awesome, and the atmosphere is very cozy, with fireplaces in every room. If you get a chance to get there for happy hour. $1 oysters, and they are not your normal polluted Blue Points. They are shucked perfect, I have only had one with a piece of shell. Plus the bar interior reminds me of an old Viking tavern. Great place. Try it if you have the time.

Great cocktails. Fantastic apps. Had prime rib and lobster. PR was very good, but not great. Everyone was very satisfied with their entrees. Service was fantastic, but it wasn't overly busy on this weeknight. I can't wait to go back and try the aged beef.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in North Dakota. This place is great. The seafood is as good as any landlocked state I have ever visited and the steaks are phenomenal. They have a great selection of wines and beers tm and the whiskeys are probably the best part. The service is terrific, the atmosphere and the building itself is really cool too. Definitely a must for Bismarck visitors.

One of the only alternatives to upper snake dining next to the Bistro. They are very similar in price range, but depending what you order it's very hit or miss. The food can be amazing one time and not the greatest the next. They do have a nice selection of whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches. Though be prepared to pay a premium for these drinks just as you would for the food. There are better, more reasonably priced places around town with just as good food. I only come here on very seldom occasions.

Last Friday night at 6:30PM my wife and I went here to celebrate. When we arrived they said it would be a 25-30 minute wait. We agreed to be seated in the bar after only 15 minutes because a table opened up there sooner (this was a mistake). There were 8 tables in the bar and only 1 waiter. It took a long time for everything - drinks, food, refills, etc. For example, it was 40 minutes from the time we ordered our food until it arrived. We had the Jumbo Crab Cake for an appetizer - not even close to what I would call "jumbo." We had the King Cut Cowboy Ribeye aged for 97 days. No doubt the 26 oz. steak was weighed before it was aged and as a result was significantly smaller than what you would expect based on the way the menu read. The steak was cooked to order and was tender, but nothing special. We had the Bread Pudding for dessert, which was dried out and not heated all the way through. We walked out of the door 2.5 hours after we arrived. Considering we paid 3x as much for this steak meal as anywhere else in town ($132 for two people), we expected an above average experience. It was a huge disappointment and we will not be returning.
