Story

The hospital is not for profit and was started in 1948 by a group of concerned citizens to establish, build, maintain, manage and operate a hospital for the general welfare of the citizens in our surrounding communities. Alleghany Memorial Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient care, and a 24-hour physician staffed emergency room. Our newly expanded and renovated hospital provides some of the finest technology and accommodations in Western North Carolina.

Came in with nonstop chest spasms. Informed them I had Lyme disease. They were knowledgeable and did extensive tests to rule out heart issues and other organ issues from Lyme. They listened and took time to explain blood results. Dr. Calhoun and all the nurses, radiology and lab techs were very caring and supportive. My gallbladder may be malfunctioning so further testing recommended.

ER staff will call the police to have you arrested if you ask for help dealing with policy issues. Brought my husband here, with our three children, while on vacation when he got very sick. They have a policy of not allowing more than 1 person in the ER rooms, which was fine. I asked the nurse at the front desk what I should do and she said she didn't know, but that I couldn't stay with my husband. Eventually, a janitor pointed out that there was a waiting room down the hall. I asked for a customer service email or phone number, because I thought the nurse was rude for not mentioning the waiting room. She made a joke about not being responsible for customer illiteracy then called the police to have me arrested. Horrible, evil  people who represent the very worst of civilisation, and provide medical care that is on par with the customer service. If you're a patient, visit only if you want to be left to be left to die while your loved ones are imprisoned for daring to suggest that the nurses should pretend to be human.

Terrible experience with ER staff.  Treated me like a drug addict.  Anyone receiving care at AMH should request a copy of your record.  Mine was full of errors.  I am writing a letter of complaint, but next time, I’ll travel to Elkin for emergency care if possible.

Very unprofessional. After seeing my husband and diagnosing him with bronchitis they wrote him a prescription for medication he needed a machine to use. With out asking if we had the machine in question. He just assumed we had one without asking. When I called back to ask if they could write him a prescription for the machine the woman I spoke to blamed my husband for not saying he did not have one (he was not told he needed the machine until he filled the script. He was under the impression it was for an inhaler not a breathing machine). They refused to give him a prescription for the machine and are making him wait until a family doctor is available in a week when he needs to return to work on monday.

Dr. Groban and nurse Sara took excellent care of me during a difficult time. I showed up in extreme stomach pain, they listened to my long story, ordered a ct scan right away and pain medicine. He diagnosed my issue and ordered meds to help heal my stomach. I'm grateful that Sparta has such a nice ER and a caring staff!
