Amsterdam Bar & Hall

About

Neighborhood Bar and Music venue, committed to the arts, food, drinks, and tunes!

Story

The Amsterdam Bar and Hall is the new music venue and bar/restaurant owned by the Oulman family (331 Club). Much like the 331 was at the forefront of the arts boom in NE Minneapolis, we are bringing that energy to downtown St. Paul. In partnership with the Big Table Studio and Eclipse Records, we focus on making our stretch of Wabasha hopping with entertainment.

I have been here on about 5 occasions, and I have never had a good experience. The staff has always been rude. One time we sat at the table for about 25 minutes for lunch, and eventually decided to leave. Another time I went there to see my friends band perform, and after going out of the room after the show for a couple minutes tried to go back in we refused entry. I explained that this was a friends band and I just wanted to say goodbye, as he lives out of town and I don't see him much, they refused me. On top of that, they charged my boyfriend for his beer glass. I guess it was supposed to be a deposit of $20 to be returned upon returning the glass (it really wasn't all that great of a glass...I have worked at places that did that before, but for this glass it was a little much) and they never returned his money to him when he brought it back. I will never go here again. I am surprised they are still open.

And decent place for some drinks and food but every show I've been to I don't know if it's the sound system at scrap or the guy doesn't know how to do it but the shows always sound like s***

Always great service, fantastic food and since we are in the Gin Club, great drinks. When we show up, the music is always varied, from death metal, Replacements cover band, to a House DJ. Always worth the trip.
