We have a well established 110 gal tank at our office with a fifteen year-old Tomato Clown....and a 14-inch ten year-old carpet anemone. I only mention this as a means of establishing that we are somewhat experienced fish keepers. After a 3-year hiatus we decided to add some new residents to our tank. We went to Animart and selected an Orange Tail Butterfly and a Coral Beauty. They both died within 2 weeks of a parasite, which also infected our clown. We treated the tank with a common anti-parasitic, but it was absolutely heartbreaking to watch the progression of the disease from one fish to the next. The clown struggled for about 10 days, and finally shrugged it off....but she had little spots all over, was lethargic, fins looked haggard, and her eyes were milky. We thought she was a goner. I cannot tell you with 100% certainty that it Animart was the source....but given all the above information, I am at a loss as to how else our tank got infected. We will not be shopping there anymore.

I can only speak for the fish section, but the employees really know what they are talking about and truly do their best to help you out. The prices on the fish are high, especially for only a 48 hour warranty, but I don't know any stores with a selection as good. They have a lot in their store, it's fun to shop at, and the employees are kind and helpful. I would certainly recommend shopping here.

Use to be comparable to living art aquarium on fish species. But from the last two years, the fish quality has gone down. No fish that really stands out anymore. Same boring expensive fish months after months. But they sometimes carry better supplies at better prices to the other local stores here in Madison. Hours not so great because they closed at 8:00 pm. I give it 4 star because their isn’t a lot of fish store here in Madison. The fun part about here in Madison is driving from pet stores to stores and always checking what’s new and interesting these stores have. The bad is that every store here in Madison opens until 9 and this one closes at 8.

After a 15 year hiatus from raising tropical fish (everything from brackish water species to Discus), I decided to get my granddaughter started in aquariology. Nothing complex, just a few male guppies in a 10 gallon tank. The tank water tested within normal limits before putting any fish into this recently established tank. I bought 3 guppies first. Two died within 48-72 hours of acquisition so were not covered under their 48 hour warranty. I replaced my old water testing kit thinking perhaps the strips and/or testing chemicals had gone bad. I tested the water again and received results once again within acceptable limits. I went back with my granddaughter to pick out 4 new guppies since she was very sad. We found an employee in the fish room (yep, the sole staff member in the room) who apparently didn't wish to be bothered and her attitude couldn't have more accurately reflected that. She was unpleasant and condescending with me, informing me that the reason my two fish died was most likely due to a guppy beating by the other male in the tank. However, she "didn't have time to check [my] water testing results. At this point I should've walked out but a good aquarist never gives up, especially not on guppies (however, the smart one should've walked right out). I capitulated and bought 4 more, from different tanks trying to rule out a variable. We took the fish home, went through the typical drill and turned them loose 25 minutes later. One of the guppies died within 30 seconds of release. Within 40 hours, ALL my fish were deceased! When I brought the fish and a water sample to the store I saw what appeared to be, a sizeable fish kill in all of their guppy tanks. They did honor the 48 hour guarantee so I'll give them one star credit for it. Unfortunately, the reason for the massive fish kill was purportedly due to a long standing acclimation problem with hard water exposure which they didn't hold their fish in quarantine for, nor did they disclose to customers who spent considerable time and resources on their $6 guppies. At this rate, I think I'll give carnival fish a try. Better outcomes.

Absolutely horrible place and horrible experience. We went in to get our first family pet, a rabbit! And after a few hours and a few hundred dollars we got our new pet Lola the bunny! Well a month later Lola is pregnant and had 7 babies. I called the manager and asked to speak with a manager. Al I got was the girl who sold us the rabbit. She didn’t apologize and just said oh well I didn’t know she was pregnant or we wouldn’t have sold her. NOW on my paper work from them it says she’s spayed. I called and asked and the girl Danielle said she was spayed. When I asked again after finding out she was pregnant she said she never told us that. A flat out lie! She looked at my fiancée and said I’m 90% sure she’s spayed. Nope. And when I asked why you sold a pregnant bunny I didn’t get a clear response. no manger wanted to talk to me because they knew it was there mistake. All I got offered was a 20% discount on purchases, the same discount employees get and that same discount we got when we purchased her. This place is a joke. Clearly management couldn’t care less and they are about profit. Now we have 7 baby bunnies in a small apt and gotta buy more food, more stuff to raise them. And all I got was a big FU from animart. I would stay away from this place.
