The customer service has plummeted at this store. I went in to purchase several gifts. I went to look at candles and one employee, who was quite large, was posted at the candles chatting with another employee. She would not budge. I could not see the candles and could not get around her. She was so engrossed in her chat that she was oblivious that a customer was trying to see the merchandise she was blocking. When I finally find some items, I went to the register. The lady at the register was on the phone and told me she'd call someone up to check me out. The girl she called was obviously disturbed that she had to come and check out. I let her know that the items were gifts and I needed them gift-bagged separately. Her response, "Wait, you want to pay for them all separately?" I told her no, I just wanted them gift-bagged separately. Well after I paid, she threw them all into one bag. I reminded her they were separate gifts. She handed me a second bag with a missing handle as she rolled her eyes. I pointed out that the bag was missing a handle. Eye roll again. I noticed that there were gift boxes on the counter so I asked her if I could buy the boxes. " No they're free. You want one?" Yes please. She handed me ONE box for the five gifts. No tissue, no ribbon. I didn't dare ask for more. It's no wonder fewer and fewer people are shopping in brick and mortar. I did most of my Christmas shopping online this year. I needed to run in for last minute gifts. I will plan better next time so I won't have to go into that store. What a disaster.

I have been shopping at Anthropologie for over 8 years. Today was the worst experience I have ever had at one of their shops. Anthropolgie and Free people are my favorite stores. I find the atmosphere relaxing. I love to take my time and view all the beautiful displays. Today my peace was disturbed by the manager Mandy. I had a pleasant time walking in the home goods side of the store. I was asked by one of the girls if I needed any help and I said no and continued browsing. When I reached the clothing side I picked up two items to try on. Mandy came and asked if I wanted her start a room for me. I said yes and she took my two items. She then came back and began trying to chat. I am pretty sure I made it clear by my demeanor that I was not in the mood for a chat. She was pretending to fold clothes all around me while trying to make conversation which was incredibly distracting from my shopping experience. I couldn't even look at the clothes because obviously if someone is chatting you up, you have to keep looking up to reply to them. Annoyed, I walked over to the other side of the clothing section near the front. She followed me there. At this point, I knew she wasn't just being friendly. She very obviously was following me in order to watch me. I proceeded to go to the fitting room. She actually followed me to the fitting rooms. After closing the curtain, I could hear her whispering to the other girl who was working. She then told the other girl to go on the floor and she would take over the fitting room. In the course of 5 minutes, she had asked me 3 times if I had tried on this one skirt I had brought in. At this point, I was furious. I couldn't even have a nice shopping experience without this annoying woman bugging me and so very obviously treating me as if I were a criminal. I ended up buying one of the tops I had. She went on her little speaker to announce that I was heading to the register to buy it. After checking out, I asked the girl to speak to the manager and it ended up being Mandy, the woman who was following me. I told her that I didn't appreciate her following me. She became all defensive and insisted that she was just having good customer service. No Mandy. That is NOT good customer service. Treating your customers like they are shoplifters is NOT good customer service. Following someone and trying to have a conversation when they clearly just want to shop, is NOT good customer service. Good customer service is checking up on a customer every now and then and taking my clothes to the fitting room if you happen to see me carrying them. I don't go to the stores to make friends or have someone probe into my personal business. I don't need or want to hear about what you're doing for the holidays or listen to you complain about how long it took you to get to work. You are taking the focus away from my shopping and actually making me want to just leave. Having been an Anthropolgie customer for nearly a decade and spending thousands of dollars over the years, I was greatly offended by being treated like a criminal. I fully intend on writing a complaint to the corporate office and regional manager.
