Argosy Book Store - Rare Book Sellers Since 1925

Story

Argosy Book Store is now in its third generation of family ownership. Our enormous stock of antiquarian and out-of-print items fills a six-floor building in midtown Manhattan and a large warehouse in Brooklyn. We specialize in Americana, modern first editions, autographs, art, antique maps & prints, and the history of science & medicine. We also have thousands of books in all other fields of interest. We are founding members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, and we belong to the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers and the Appraisers Association of America.

Very cool eclectic bookstore covering wealth of topics. Out of print books and immense volume of paper - advertising, posters, maps, prints, postcards, etc. Significant collection of autographed material also. Mainstream out of print titles in basement level. Paper on 2. Restroom for patrons on 3. Maneuvering levels requires manually operated elevator except for basement

One of the precious place to refresh myself. This place seems never been affected by time. Such an antique place in the middle of the modern city.

The oldest independently owned bookshop in the city that deals with antique books, maps and prints! Entering the store, you get more than a whiff of that old book smell - an combination of coffee and chocolate for some, and some hints of vanilla and grass for others. This results from the decomposition of books and other material, of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Amazing array of books. This bookstore is full of history and books from all sort of topics. The staff is amazingly nice. A must-see while in NY.
