Aunt Carrie's has been family owned and operated since 1920.

Story

For 96 years we have been serving up traditional, fresh & local Rhode Island seafood. We're home of the Rhode Island Shore Dinner and legend has it Aunt Carrie herself invented the clam cake! Our famous homemade pies and breads are baked daily! Recently we opened Aunt Carrie's Ice Cream Shoppe, directly located across the street, which offers up our outrageous signature sundaes such as 'The Dirty Fisherman' and 'The Block Island Sunrise', as well as our delicious Pie Frappes.

My new husband, my new in-laws, and I came here for dinner tonight. My husband's parents are from New Jersey and Ireland, so they've never really had authentic Rhode Island cuisine. It was only fitting to take them to Aunt Carrie's as their first authentic Rhode Island experience. It did not disappoint! We got clam cakes and chowder and stuffies, and my father-in-law got a fried lobster roll. Everything was so good! The waitress (whose name I didn't catch, unfortunately) was awesome too. She was attentive and courteous and quick to offer suggestions, which we appreciated. On top of everything, the location is great. It's close to Scarborough State Beach and Point Judith, and it's on the same road as the Narragansett State Beach. They have smartly sectioned off the restaurant where one part is for dine-in and another part is for waiting for take-away, and they have an ice cream shop just across the street. All in all, if you want an authentic Rhode Island experience and really good food, Aunt Carrie's is the place to go!

First, polite, swift, and exceptional service. Delicious bread. Excellent clear chowder. Too bad it was only warm. Ordered the full order of steamers (2 lbs.), but 1/3 had crushed shells and missing bellies. Not the best at all. The lobster salad plate had mostly very small pieces of knuckle meat, and there were shells mixed in that I couldn't see until they were in my mouth. I have many great memories of Aunt Carrie's, but the care taken with the preparation of the food has slipped in recent years.

Service was good. Chowder was more on the soup side. Clam cakes didn't have enough flavor. Seafood platter was skimpy. Ive had better. Cinnamon bread was really good. Overall I probably won't be back.

Generations of my family worked at this casual seaside seafood place, and it has barely changed at all over the years. Love their fluffy, crispy, perfectly fried clam cakes (fritters), their light-as-air fish and chips, and their fat juicy and fresh coconut shrimp. My personal preference is for white chowder, but my Dad loves their clear broth chowder. Save room for dessert because their strawberry shortcake is one of the best I've tasted!
