French bistro in the heart of downtown Traverse City. Come see how fun French can be!
About Bistro Foufou:
Bistro Foufou is located in the beautiful and historic former firehouse in downtown Traverse City. The long and narrow space has been delightfully renovated and features a stunning bar that seats 30 on one side, and a sleek dining room on the other. Additional seating is available at the pantry kitchen bar, where you can watch the kitchen in action. We serve amazing dinner entrees, and we have a terrific happy hour. The chef and owner, Guillaume Hazael-Massieux, creates memorable renditions of his native France's familiar cuisine using the highest quality ingredients; and being in Northern Michigan, that means that many of our ingredients come from farmers and producers close to home. We look forward to seeing you at Foufou!
What is a foufou?
Fou means crazy in French. Foufou is the créole nickname for hummingbird, because of the bird's crazy flight pattern. But why a bird and why créole? Our sister restaurant, La Becasse, is also a bird--a woodcock--and Guillaume wanted to maintain an avian theme in naming this new venture. And the créole name is a nod to his Guadeloupean heritage.
