I drove by the black eyed pea for months before I decided to stop. I was pleased when I did. They serve home cooked food. I got chicken fried chicken and my husband got chicken fried steak. We also had loaded potato skins as an appetizer. Both of us were impressed. The atmosphere was a mix between diner and a old people place. I say that with the up most respect, on a Saturday night around five we were the youngest people in there in our mid twenties everyone else looked to be retired. The drinks were amazing too, VERY large glasses, but my husband calls me a camel for a reason, I sucked it down before our meal came and it never got refilled.

They have home cooked meals with every kind of meat, poultry and fish and 2 side dishes are included in your meal. First, they bring a basket of yeast rolls and cornbread and then your drink, while you wait for them to cook your meal. The drinks are in very large glasses. The sweet tea is good. You can also get wine or mixed drinks. You can select the senior portion meals. For example, a regular large fried shrimp dinner has 8 and the senior portion has 4 large shrimp. They cost less, too. Lunch is 11-4 PM. I think supper is from 4-11 PM. They have Sundaes, cobblers and other desserts. Your food arrives in about 15 minutes. You can take out meals, too. They have booths and tables that you can move together for a large group. I love the food, service and atmosphere.

We go to the one at The Citadel Crossing. The food is consistently good. The service really needs help. Place is quiet, no one greets. Feeling like we will have to help outselves. The wait for 10 min, for drinks. Then we get the rolls. Ask for honey to make honey butter, 10 min later...I'm searching for the server. Our eccentric server with his collection of fancy pens...seems to be non-existent. Really Black-Eyed Pea, you could do so much better. We've been sitting here now for 45 minutes and our food hasn't arrived. Bye..bye Peter...thank you Joel...for changing our opinion...this time!

Love this place!! Home cooked styled meals, friendly staff and wondedful waitresses. Fast, fun and lovely service. Hostess sat us fast and was super nice. Food came speedy and was delicious. Definitely felt at home and recommend.

Ryan was our server and very good. The food came out hot and fresh, very yummy dinner. We go on Tuesday nights and get a kids meal for free. Makes the bill a bit better! The manager did check in on us and was very cordial.
