This business has become a ripoff. I was expecting bad weather over a 3 day road trip. So I booked an Intermediate SUV online from Budget in Lawrence. I called the location 2 days in advance to make sure they had the category I requested. Call was answered by a lady (Sherry) who said she was the new manager of the location and that she will make sure they have the category I requested. 
I finally got to meet her on the day of the pickup. She came across as very warm and personable at first. I gave her the necessary documentation (license, credit card, insurance) for the rental. I found out this was all a facade when she tried to rip me off by tacking another $39/day on my ticket to buy insurance coverage from her. I told her I wanted to decline additional coverage, because my credit card covered collision and damage to the rental. At this point she became rude and said it was a new policy and that I must buy their insurance coverage ($39/day) in order to rent the car. This was an outrageous claim because 1. Budget rental policy does not require a customer to buy full coverage, and 2. even if they require it, I provided her the proof of such coverage via my credit card. Long story short, I refused to take the rental on those terms got a last minute rental (a sedan) elsewhere, which ended up costing $102 more than the charge I reserved the SUV for.

I have rented from this place before without trouble.  But as long as Sherry is managing this location, I am not going back.

Worst experience renting a car. Customer service is 100% worthless. You get tossed around and each call ends with a recording stating they are too busy. I called 5 times and was hung up 5 times. Once by a rep and 4 times by being transferred to a "we're too busy" line. They sure aren't too busy to charge your credit card. Beyond frustrating! And the 800 number provided in the reviews above is a different extension to the same worthless customer service. In addition, this branch cannot be contacted directly. They are also, too busy! Overcharged and  under served. Never again!

I set up an appointment online to rent a truck on labor day for a local move (called the company to make sure this specific location was open that day and they said it was). When I got there, the location was closed. Called customer service and they wanted us to drive to Olathe to pick up the truck, which would've put my entire day behind schedule, not to mention cost me more money for the longer distance I would have to drive. Fortunately, U-Haul actually was open, and they were able to squeeze us in. Skip Budget. It's a terrible company with bad customer service. I've used both Penske and U-Haul in the past, and both have been great. I would recommend either of them if you're looking for a reliable moving truck rental company.

I have used Budget several times to move over the past few years and have found them to be incredibly affordable and very helpful. The trucks are well-maintained, and the staff is courteous and helpful.
