In 1974, Mike Mills decided to opt out of medical school and try to make a living doing what he loved best---canoeing the Buffalo National River. That was back when the roads around here were still dirt, the takeout for the day trip was Camp Orr (today it's Kyle's Landing) and you paddled an aluminum canoe as ABS plastic boats didn't yet exist. There was also no such thing as Gortex, but you ran the river rain or shine, cold or hot and loved every minute of it.
Almost forty years later, Mike's vision of creating an adventure resort has gone from dream to reality. We now have 19 cabins and a beautiful lodge; have added kayaks and rafts to the boat rental fleet; and built Arkansas' first zip line tour. We also opened our new 5,000-sq. ft. retail store and deli in the spring of 2013 on the site of our previous 1,000 footer.
Our staff is first rate and a big reason people return---they sincerely desire to help you make the most of your time here in Buffalo River country, whether it's adventure you're after or a beautiful scenic drive.
We plan to be here for at least another 40 years, so take a trip to Ponca and get to know us. We, in turn, will help you get to know---and come to love---the one, the only Buffalo National River. Connecting you and those you love with America's first national river is what we're all about.
