Story

A traditional Steak & Chophouse Restaurant has long been absent in Norfolk. Opening in 2006, Byrd & Baldwin Bros. Steakhouse set out to fill this void. Housed in the circa 1906 building of the same name, Byrd & Baldwin Bros. Steakhouse was conceived and executed with a no compromise attitude rewarding guests with a memorable dining experience.

Byrd & Baldwin Bros. serves only grain fed Midwestern all natural beef aged on site to ensure only the finest product quality. Meals are prepared in our state of the art kitchen by Chef Carlton Spurlock and his staff.

An extensive wine selection is provided from our temperature and humidity controlled cellar insuring optimal storage conditions. Our commitment is to provide not only the finest in food and beverage, but also outstanding service that will create a most memorable dining experience.

I want to like this restaurant because I know that there must be something outstanding about it, based on other reviews, but my our experience was not so good. Nobody came to out table for over 10 minutes after we were seated. The waiter, Alex, was awesome by the way. We don't fault him for not coming by sooner. But I did have to ask for service. Beef tartar was outstanding, but that was the only notable dish. We ordered 3 courses and were not impressed. It was our wedding anniversary night and neither the food nor the restaurant made it special or worth the almost $200 that I spent.

Had a great meal here last night. Top notch steakhouse...upscale would be an understatement...paid attention to every detail. Expensive, and worth it. Great place to have a birthday or anniversary dinner. You can't go wrong entertaining business associates here...Had the bone-in 10 oz filet with baby carrots and fingerlings...was cooked perfectly..

My husband and I went here to celebrate some work accomplishments. Reservations are a must! We are able to make reservations for Sunday night on Saturday evening. Overall, we were impressed with the food. We ordered the filet mignon and the porterhouse, fresh tomato soup and French onion soup and the 4 cheese Mac and cheese. Our steaks were cooked to perfect order, and both were flavorful and tender. The only gripe is that my husband's Arnold Palmer was *way* too sour. The prices are typical for a high-end steakhouse, but I think it was worth every penny. We were not too impressed with the service. Our waiter was not very friendly (not personable), and he did the bare minimum to service us. It was an experience for sure. The steaks made it worth it, but we probably will not return.

Simply Amazing!! I've eaten at other "Fine Dining" establishments, but this is by far top of my list. Atmosphere was perfect for an intimate dinning experience with an impeccable wait staff, and Chef prepared "PERFECT" cuisine. Even the desert was simply amazing. I highly recommend the Fillet "Oscar", and the Key Lime Pie for desert. I'm trying to find excuses to go back. Worth every penny spent!!!!

This place is great. The interior is very fancy, as are the waiters in their suits. The food came out in a timely manner and was cooked just as we asked. We ordered the tomahawk ribeye, corn, and mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly medium-rare, the corn was crisp & just buttery enough, and the potatoes were smooth with the right amount of garlic in them. This place is by no means cheap, but they do have a 2 course dinner for $40. You could both get a dinner for $80 and split the 1st course and dessert options for a 3 course meal. Or you could just share the $40 dinner since you get a whole 12oz steak anyway. We got the 30 oz tomahawk since we were feeling rich. Having said that, we did end up taking half of it home for breakfast, which between the two of us was 4 servings total. I will definitely return for another special night out.
