Story

Featuring trattoria-style Italian fare, Varia serves as a combination lounge, piano bar and tasting room with a luxe atmosphere and unequaled wine selection. Located on the second floor of the new Hilton Norfolk The Main, Varia was designed with a luxe interior complete with an open kitchen, reclaimed chandeliers from the historic Cavalier Hotel in nearby Virginia Beach, and two hidden "speakeasy" inspired private dining rooms.

Anchoring the signature lounge atmosphere at Varia is a 24 bottle wine cruvinet and live piano entertainment provided nightly to complement a full schedule of culinary workshops and tasting events.

Terrible service. Our table was in the lobby by the hostess station. Never saw the inside of the restaurant. We never got a refill on our water. I dropped my napkin on the floor as soon as we got there and was told I would get a new one right away. Was never brought another napkin. Had to ask for bread. Had to ask for grated cheese for my pasta. Chairs way too low for the table. $18.00 for 2 scallop appetizer. Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Heard other patrons making the same complaints to the manager. Should have stayed at the Main and would have been happy to eat there at the bar. Would have saved a ton of money and had better service. Have lots of friends and will tell them of our very unhappy experience. I never complain about restaurants or service but this was probably the worst ever!

I wish I could give this restaurant a negative rating. The service was terrible from the start! Took 15min for someone to come greet us (probably longer then that since I started timing it after awhile of waiting). The food was less the satisfying to say the least. It tasted as if the cooks salt shaker accidentally opened and spilled its contents all over my food. I took 2 bites and pushed it to the side. My fiancé had the same dish (their version of Fettuccine Alfredo) and his was just as bad. Instead of getting a manager, the server simply stated “it would be easier to get you a free desert then to get this taken off your bill”. Excuse me? You expect me to pay $18 for a meal I didn’t eat! I got tired of waiting so we just paid the bill and left. I will not be back and will tell everyone that ask me about this place my experience!

Third time's a charm! After 2 disappointing visits (food always good, service not-so-much), I was treated to a WONDERFUL dinner date last evening. Beautiful setting, as always, the staff was on-point, the wine was perfect, and the food was delicious. So glad the kinks are worked out, I can comfortably recommend this spot now, with additional fun to be had at Grain or Apothecary in the same building. Thank you Pete and Bethany for a lovely experience!

We went today for lunch and we all walked away talking about how delicious everything was. My company had Pear Pizza, Salmon with pasta & I had the buffet. It was all really great!

Amazing meal! All food is cooked to order. Nothing frozen! Will definitely be back!
