Story

As the official campus book store for UC Berkeley, the Cal Student Store offers products and services to students, faculty, and the surrounding community both in-store and online. We have a variety of products such as textbooks, school supplies, apparel and gifts. We also focus on textbook affordability and also offer textbook rentals and textbook buyback services for our students.

Sam T. Byrd I cut school at my junior high in San Pablo with my parents’ permission and took the bus to go see him speak that day on the UC campus.
What was especially impressive and surprising about his inspiring speech was that he was truly a masterful orator and he specifically tailored his speech for his audience who were predominately white middle class students.
As eloquent as he always was, this time he had very little of the florid southern preacher in his delivery.
It was a straightforward analysis tying the Civil Rights, anti-poverty and Free Speech movements to the growing anti-Vietnam War movement and showing how they were merely different aspects of the same struggle.
It was a privilege to see him speak and I was stunned and deeply saddened as was the entire nation when he was murdered less than a year later.

Insanely overpriced, mainly carries just clothes, and it lacks all the knick knacks a real campus store should have. For visitors, here's a secret for cheaper Cal Gear: Bancroft Clothing Company across the street has a lot for insanely lower prices, like half of what you would pay at the Campus Store. Their selection is also better in my opinion. You can also check out the Student Store, which is also across the street. It's selection of goods is larger, but still a little on the pricier side--though not as expensive again as the campus store.
