This morning on Hwy 101 at Alameda Del Prado going Southbound, there were six CHP officers, two in vehicles and four on motorcycles stopped along the HOV lane at the barrier. We could not see what they were doing except it looked like they were digging. Come to find out it was a storm drain and they pulled out a kitty cat, yep, a kitty cat, but probably a frightened little one. So lucky is that cat, must have 9 lives. But what a bunch of great guys! We at the bus stop looking across the highway couldn't believe it, but the one thing we did not do is CLAP and we should have, you guys deserve it! Great feel-good story for the day. Thank you for what you do!

I have always supported and respected our law enforcement. I also can't stand conspiracies, but this just seems strange. As an inhabitant of our wonderful country I like to believe that most PD's stand for good and I hope that Marin is just an exception. Tellings lies and fabrications comes so easy for the Marin Co Patrol and they don't realize that by doing this will continue the awful divide between Police and People. Somehow an out-of-state license plate (25$ fine), that I fixed and got registered before my court date and I can prove, has now become a $521.00 fine and resulted in my license being suspended because the officer lied on the stand. I even spoke personally with the police officer prior to my court date who was incredibly cordial and responded with "You are good to go." I was told, by him, because I faxed in my CA registration document, and lived in LA I didn't need to physically be at courthouse. Turns out that when the Officer was asked, under oath, he blatantly told the judge that he had never heard from me, that I was MIA, literally after speaking with me 10 days prior and receiving paper work from me. I received no notification of anything until 3months later when the DMV wrote me a letter explaining my suspended license because of this case. I drove the 7.5 hours to Marin immediately to battle this and explain the situation. Ask me if that worked? You know the answer or else I wouldn't be writing this review.

I got a flat tire, between 10pm and 11pm last night, just as I was pulling onto northbound 101 at Rowland. I pulled over to the right of the road to find out that the front driver side went flat and I was in a new car and I could not find a spare. So, I originally called roadside service to come in and help out with a flat tire, but then I changed it to a tow because I couldn't find a spare. The CHP showed up and asked if he could check to see if there was a spare, so I said, "Sure!" and he found one! I was relieved because he saved me a great deal of time, money, and stress! He was a true life saver, sort of speak! He had a great attitude and was very proactive in his duty to serve as a community leader helping out those in need. He is a true inspiration to the California Highway Patrol and he even gave me that old feeling you get of common courtesy and happiness you find in the television series CHiPs. Thank you for your help!!

I had a feeling one would see either two of the extremes in the 'star rating' for the CHP. Growing up and riding (surviving) and driving the highways n' byways of Marin, I've had my share of encounters with the CHP. Personally speaking my honest opinion of the CHP would be that of respect. It can go a long way in their eyes to be open and honest regarding your own actions and showing respect in doing so. For example: Properly pulling your vehicle from the roadway safely and in a safe location for them, keeping hands visible, and even just smiling and removing sunglasses. ☺ Addressing the officer in a respectful manner has proven to me a fair decision from them every time. Its quite possible to turn a 'routine stop' into a good day for someone else just by your actions. ("10 percent action 90 percent reaction") Not only by your actions once stopped - but your actions at all times on the roadways. I highly recommend utilizing turn signals, understanding how to merge, and simple and basic courteous driving techniques can all prevent making friends with the CHP. Finally, lets reserve the number one lane for emergency vehicles and passing.
