Courtesy Automotive is a family owned and operated auto repair shop in Colorado Springs, CO. We have been providing quality car repair and maintenance services since 1989! I recommend avoiding this shop for anything other than routine, non-diagnostic work.

Within the ~6 hours my vehicle was in their care, an intermittent transmission problem became an inoperable transmission after a simple transmission filter and fluid change.

While it is irresponsible to say "they broke my car"  and blame the shop when I knew it was a high mileage vehicle and possibly prone to complete failure, I will point out these two peculiarities. I do not mean to question the shop's integrity, but to point out facts and how they impacted my perception. I still generally believe this business to be honest people who tried their best at the bad hand I dealt them.

1. When I asked for a 'worst case' scenario for either a transmission rebuild or replacement BEFORE entrusting my car to their care, the manager/front guy said "well, we will just see what will happen first after the fluid flush and filter change. Don't get too far ahead." and so forth. His reluctance to give me a solid number for a transmission replacement or overhaul should have been a warning sign, so bad on my part for not running away here or pressing harder for more honest details. He also steered away from the 'overhaul' option towards the more expensive "replacement' option. Leading to point #2...

2. When inquiring about overhauls versus complete replacements, he promoted the brand of re-manufactured parts (including transmissions) they sell, as well as displaying their logos on his clothing. My ideal situation would have been an overhaul, as it is cheaper. This place is not a specialty transmission shop, so I should have run away here as well BEFORE their actions made my car un-driveable as it seemed they would not be comfortable with overhaul.

Several hours later, a few hundred dollars, and a 5 mile (by odometer) shop worker test drive later,  and a call from the shop stating 'everything seems fine,' my wife attempts to pick up the vehicle to find that it will not go into any other gear than 1st (no reverse either). The problem has become bad enough to preclude driving to a specialty transmission shop. The price quoted for a replacement by the shop was greater than the vehicles value, and the cost of towing to a specialty shop put the margin of value for overhaul outside the vehicle's value as well. Thus, I ended up scrapping a vehicle I could have (and wanted) to save.

2 stars vice 1 star due the shop offering to apply the cost of the transmission filter and fluid replacement to cost of a replacement transmission as well as the overall positive and friendly demeanor of the employees. I wish  I would have pressed them to be more upfront about possible  'worst case' costs, expectations, and capability.

They did a great job. I have a few more things I need fixed on my 02 Durango. You guys do a great job and no one else will work on anyone of my vecheicals thanks everyone at Curtesy Automotive.

We have had major work done on two Toyota Land Cruisers, a 1982 and a 1988, and trust Dale and his team with all our regular maintenance on our other vehicles as well.

They are trustworthy, thorough and priced better than dealer service rates.  

We were referred to the previous owner for 4x4 work, and we have seen things only get better under Dale's ownership.

We had taken an 11 hour road trip to Colorado Springs and the check engine light came on at 5pm after we arrived.  We called Courtesy Auto and explained our situation.  Dale said he could get us in early the next morning and they even let us use a loaner car so we could go sight see while they did repairs!
Amazing service!!  Fast, friendly and extremely accommodating to our needs.
