I started working out at Crossfit Tallahassee in June of 2017. So far, it's been an absolutely awesome experience and I'm glad I made the decision to sign up. When I first showed up, it was hard. And guess what, it's STILL HARD ... but I like hard. If you're like me and you're looking for a challenge, please come by and talk to Coach Greg or Coach Pat. Both of them will go out of their way to make sure you not only get in great shape, but have fun doing it. As a husband and father of 2 little girls, I need A LOT of energy. The 6am class with Coach Greg and the rest of the early morning crew is where I find it. It's always an upbeat atmosphere and every time I leave the gym (or box), I'm glad I showed up.

Dropped in on Saturday during the open gym session while recently visiting the area. This is a fantastic box, the trainer was extremely welcoming and members were very friendly while I was there. Felt like my home gym. Gym is very spacious and well laid out. I'll be back on future visits to Tallahassee!

I found Crossfit Tallahassee out of frustration. I had just graduated from college; Most of my exercise in college was spent doing “cardio.” After four years of willing myself to make it to 30 minutes like a zombie on that stupid thing, I was so over it. That all changed when I found CF Tally. At first, Greg, one of the owners and trainers, did a lot of talking about each specific movement, why Crossfit has chosen to do them, and why it matters to you. At first I thought, “yeah yeah, less talkie more workie outie.” But as time when on, I realized, he wasn’t treating me like a calorie-burning zombie. If you know the philosophy behind why you are doing something, you are more likely to want to do it day in and day out. After all the talk, I did my first workout, and I was immediately hooked. There is a reason that people don’t become “obsessed” with the everyday globogym, but seem to not shut up about Crossfit. When I first joined CFT, my reasons were like most people, I wanted to look good. But somewhere in that first year, my motivation changed. Crossfit makes you a better human being. You are going in to be a better athlete, lift heavy things, run farther and faster. You can walk through life just surviving, or you can thrive and be the best version of yourself possible. I am convinced that you get what you pay for. You can pay $10 a month to globogym, wander around, do some curls in the mirror, and then promise yourself you are going to go back but never do. Even though I am a long-time member, to this day, Teresa, one of the owners and trainers, always helps me pick the perfect weight and reps for each workout. She asks me about my life, and knows how to scale things for me if I have an injury or have been gone for a week. I think this is a place where other Crossfit gyms fall short. You don’t want to pay for a Crossfit gym that is on autopilot. When you get comfortable and you know what you are doing, the coaching and personalized treatment does not go away at CFT. This is invaluable to me. I may think I have done a clean and jerk 8 million times, but Pat, a long time trainer and manager of CF Tally, can always spot something new for me to work on, to make me do it that much more efficiently. Speak with him for 5 minutes, and you realize the importance he places on being on the cutting edge of athletic performance. He focuses on correct form over all, and he isn’t afraid to give you a little tough love when you need it. Lastly, you want to be at a gym that has been around for a long time. A gym that isn’t experimenting, but instead knows what programing is going to specifically help you with your short and long term goals. A gym that knows what works and what doesn’t. You aren’t being careless with your time and money, so your gym shouldn’t be either. This brings me to the culture at CF Tally. I did travel nursing for 6 months, and I went to a lot of other gyms during that time, and I saw how different the culture can be at each one. To me, there is a fine line that a gym has to walk. If there isn’t any competiveness, and no one is pushing you to do your best, you aren’t going to improve. But if you are in an environment where you feel like everyone else is in a secret club you aren’t invited to, and you are intimidated, you are not going to want to go in either. You want to feel safe, like you can experiment, be a little vulnerable, and be praised for your effort no matter what that means to you. To me, CF Tally walks that line gracefully. Everyone cheers you on when you need it, or gives you space when you don’t. No one makes you feel less than, and at the end of a workout, the beginners to the veterans are praising each other, exchanging advice, and lamenting over what they accomplished that day. I am so grateful I have had this gym and its members in my life for so long, and I want as many people as possible to come here and realize it can be home for them as well.

After moving to Tallahassee in January 2014 after living in Sarasota for 40 years, I found keeping up with my prior fitness routine was not working out so well.  Being a colon cancer survivor of 18 years and undergoing very extensive treatments at a very young age, I knew it was time to get very serious about a fitness program this year.  I never imaged it would be Crossfit! Crossfit seemed like something I could never do because of my health challenges.  I did not realize that each workout is scaled to your individual fitness level.  When Coach Greg told me that, I decided to give it a try because that is exactly what I needed!  Receiving personalized training in a group setting has been so inspiring as I watch all the various fitness levels around me. And I Love the fact that there is a different workout (WOD) each day!  It never gets boring and it is Always Challenging!   In less than a year of attending Crossfit Tallahassee, I have greatly increased my muscle strength and tone.   Coach Greg and Teresa Keeter and Coach Pat are very knowledgeable and extremely patient!  They have provided me with very personalized training during each and every class.  This has been such A BLESSING in helping me build muscle and get stronger for continued good health.  Crossfit Tallahassee has been the Best Investment that I have made!  My Dad would always say "If you have your Health, you have Everything"!  He was So Right!! Thank You! Mary Colonese

Growing up I’ve always been an athlete. I love the challenge that comes with being active and striving always to do one better. I’ve done the whole gym memberships, personal training, boot camps, kickboxing, martial arts, dance classes, strict diet, the whole 9 yards. When CrossFit hit its craze and popularity however, I was not interested. I just thought, heavy lifting plus too many people with one trainer equals easy injury, and me being accident-prone, (knee, foot, elbow and back injuries- just to name a few) gave me a reason to go in the opposite direction. In March I moved to Tallahassee and the routine of having to come up with my own workouts, just didn’t cut it for me anymore. Talking with some friends who recently picked up CF, even those who are much older and much more accident-prone, said it has been the best challenge they’ve met. I did some research and decided to give it run. I have to say I am so glad I did. At CrossFit Tallahassee, I’ve found a place that challenges me. Friends that even at 6am push me when I THINK I’ve given it my all. I have quite the support system of coaches like Greg, Teresa and Pat that want to see me improve and reach my goals even if I think they’re unattainable. Every workout has had its challenges, instead of allowing me to stay with the thought, “I can’t”, this dream team of 3, help scale the weights or movements so that I too can complete the workouts.   Remember how I said I am accident-prone? Well here’s to say I wasn’t lying.  I stressed my wrists a bit too far about two months into training. Now don’t think, I knew it, CrossFit results in injury! No. I simply moved too fast without giving it much thought. You have to learn to walk before running, right? I forget that I am not as strong as I used to be, and need to walk before I run when it comes to working out. Instead of calling quits, Coach Greg and Pat were more than patient, willing to work around my injury. Not just that, but together figured out what muscles needed to be strengthened to better my wrists. Although it was frustrating they did nothing but encourage me. We were able to figure out exercises to strengthen my wrists and forearms, movements to help with the mobility and I’m glad to say I am almost at 100% again. I have to admit I’ve had a mental block, worried my wrists will get worse, but that’s where these 3 come in. At CFTally whether 6am with Coach Greg or later in the evening with Teresa or Coach Pat, I find a coach that is willing to hear but not accept my “excuses” and show me I am capable of getting over this hurtle.  Reaching goals never is easy, that’s why it is a goal, right? If it was easy, why try to achieve it? My goals thus far have been far from easy and I have yet to fully achieve them, but from the beginning until now I’m stronger both mentally and physically, and see results! Everyday each workout presents its challenges and man some days I wish I would’ve stayed home, but together with my coaches and fellow sweaty motivators, the encouragement and positivity is too real to not kick butt. From the outside crossfit seems like it is just nonstop lifting ridiculously heavy weight, constant yelling by super young and super fit athletes. As a new insider, I can attest that CFTally is a game changer. At CrossFit Tallahassee I’ve found a community that very much became like family, all at different levels of fitness and ages. It is a family that sweats together, pushes each other to get better, and get stronger. Please tell me which gym you find that.
